I think I'm going to get my dd a planner and some of the fun accessories for Christmas.
I'm looking online, and a dumb question--when you buy the planner, the monthly dividers are included, right? I'm assuming each year you can replace the guts? Or, is this a one year and done? How's the quality? Anything you don't like about it?
Thanks!

I currently have an EC planner. It's a one year and done thing. Nice quality, dividers are included. I am also looking at Plum Paper Planners, they are similar to the EC planner and a little cheaper. I saw a nice one I liked at Inkwell Press, but they were sold out. I think they are getting them back in stock, but I haven't checked recently. I use mine more as a journal than as a planner. If you want to see some videos of planner comparisons, Jennifer Ross did a bunch of them this year. Go to YouTube and look for Pretty Neat Living. She did EC, the Plum Planner and the Inkwell planner as well as a couple of others. She also has links to Etsy shops for stickers she uses in her journals. ETA: Pretty Neat Living Blog

I have one but I like the Plum Planners better, only because I think their designs are nicer. Quality is good on the EC however I am hearing grumblings about the paper not being as thick this year. The coil binding is really nice and rugged and still looks good a year later. Personally I find the colors a bit too childish for my taste, I am not into bright colors and that's kind of EC's thing.

Ok I knew someone was going to jump on that... yes to me bright rainbow colors are childish, again, to me. It's not my thing, so I have gone with another planner that is less bright. I don't think less of anyone who chooses to buy an EC, loves their EC or enjoys the colors that EC uses.

I'll pay attention to the Plum Planner in comparisons. My dd is 17, so the bright colors are right up her alley. And honestly, that's what I go for also, lol. I'm a fan of bright, funky, fun colors and when I was looking at the EC site, I started to think, "hmmm...maybe I want one." Bright colors are childish? Okay.... Anyway I love my EC planner and mine has held up really well. But you replace it annually. I would love to get mine as a gift. I'm happy that it sounds like a good gift. DD wanted one for the beginning of the school year, but we had already bought a cheaper one that she filled in, and honestly, I didn't want to spend that money on top of the supplies we had to buy, etc. Christmas just sounded like a good time, and would be an unexpected surprise!

I used the EC planner for 3-4 years. I have switched to a Plum Planner for 2016. I really like it. I have a lot in it already for the new year. I love that you can choose the layout for the pages inside too. And mine has bright colors which I love. Bright colors make me happy! My college age girls also began using the Plum Planner in August of this year. They are loving them. They have the student planner.

I have used both Plum Paper and EC. I went back to EC for 2016. This is the planner I have for next year: erincondren.com/life-in-little-squares-lifeplanner I chose the custom colorway, which isn't as bright. Both brands are durable, but in the PP, I didn't like that when a week crossed months, the same entire week's spread is repeated under the next month's tab. EC stops at the last full week of the month, and the split week is under the next month's tab. I like that the EC cover is laminated; the PP is not. This is my first EC planner with a removable cover. I've heard complaints of the cover popping off and I've had that happen once so far. Hopefully that will not be an issue.

I just clicked the Pretty Neat Living Blog link, and then on sticker links in there -- OH MY...I cannot believe the stickers available on Etsy. Holy crud, I could spend forever picking through stickers! How fun though! I always used a paper planner, and got away from it when I got an iPhone. Honestly, I'm not liking the calendar feature too much on the phone after using it for a couple of years. Oh wait, I'm supposed to be looking for DD's Christmas gift. I think I'm jumping on the bandwagon for me too, lol.

They've already sold out of a couple styles for the 2nd time this year. I have the A5 inserts for my FiloFax from them. The paper is really, really nice. I had an EC a couple years ago. My issue with EC is customer service, so I'll never buy from them again. I had a horrid experience with some Christmas cards.

I have 3 EC life planners and 2 notebooks. I love them and use them all. I've never tried any of the others even though I've seen them. There are several EC facebook pages that show layouts and there is even one for issues and concerns. The only EC order problem I've ever had was my own fault. I ordered a cover and spelled my own name wrong ??.

I bought myself and my 16 yo dd Plum Paper planners this year before school started. We both love them. I bought myself some stickers and she stole them from me so I think I'm going to buy her some stickers for her stocking this Christmas. My 11 yo dd really wanted one too and was pretty upset that she didn't get her own but they have a set planner they have to use for school. I'm debating surprising her with one for Christmas as well.

The Peas turned me onto Erin Condren back in 2007, I believe and I've had her planners ever since. They've changed a whole lot and gotten better drastically over the years. I fell in love with the Inkwell Press planners when Jennifer Ross from Pretty Neat Living did an unboxing a few weeks ago. I was lucky enough to get one of their planners for 2016 this morning! I can't believe they are almost sold out AGAIN! They clearly need to increase their production if they are going to be this popular! I'm excited for them! EC has fabulous fabulous products! Her eye for design is spectacular. I will say, in full disclosure, that my planner cover this year did come apart at the edges and my notebook's paper isn't as thick as the paper has been previously. I have been very fortunate not to have any issues with their customer service over the years but I have heard some stories. I hope your daughter loves whatever planner you get her! As much as I love my electronics I will always have a paper planner.

I've used an EC annually for about 5 years. I love them! They hold up well, I like the colors and interchangeable covers. I keep my covers from year to year--so I have quite a few to choose from. I also love their notebooks. In all my 5 years of ordering from EC, I've only had 1 issue. I ordered a deluxe notebook, but they sent me the simple notebook (without the storage folder and plastic zip bag in the back). I emailed and they shipped me a new one immediately. I got to keep the old notebook as well. My only complaint is that orders can take FOREVER to arrive. I usually give myself a month for the order to arrive if it's a custom order with my name and pictures. If you want it by Christmas, and you want it custom--order now.

My Staples had a bunch of Erin Condron 2016 planners about two weeks ago. They were coil bound and you could not change the papers. I think they were $44 each. They had about 4 or 5 different styles.

Wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and suggestions. After spending way, way too much time yesterday and this morning looking at all of these planners, I've decided to go with the EC planner for dd, and I've decided I'm going to go with the Simple Stories Carpe Diem planner. I thought about the SS for dd, but I know come the end of the year, she'll be itching to get a different design, so the leather and refillable wouldn't be for her. For me, I like that the SS is leather, closes, and I LOVE SS products. Now I just have to figure out which one to get her and which accessories.

On one of my planner boards everyone was so excited to get their Inkwell inserts for their planners. The shipping was too high to Canada so I passed. I like printing my own, too. Then I get whatever I want. I also have binders instead of a coil bound book. I tried the EC one and I didn't like it enough to order it again. My Filofaxes and Kikki K ones are great!

I had a tapestry planner that held up, and I used for years.

Crud! I have an EC planner and I have to say I've loved having it. I decided this year though to look at some other options because I was hoping I could find something a little cheaper. I looked at some different ones (Happy Planner, Plum, etc.) and decided I was going to spend the money on the EC. It just seems much sturdier than the others. My planner often just sits on my desk or nearby me, but it also gets thrown in purses, tote bags, suitcases, etc., and I love how it's held up. I'm not sure some of the others I was looking at would have held up as well.
But now I see this SS Carpe Diem planner and I'm really liking it. It looks like it hold up well and I especially like that it has a closure. I have a couple questions though. First, it comes with monthly and weekly pages for one year, right? Are the pages already set up for 2016 or do you need to fill them? I'm thinking you have to fill them in because I didn't see anywhere on the ordering site where it specifies 2016. My second question is, it's a ring binder so you refill it each year. Where do you get the refills? I didn't see any where on the site I was looking at that provided the calendar refills w/o the binder. Or do you just have to go to a store and buy refills from another company that uses the ring binder system?
