This was on my FB page today. I LOVE Mental Floss, and even more now that they have put this debate to rest. Thank goodness. From the article: Tech writer Owen Williams recently came across the 1891 patent for perforated toilet paper with drawings clearly indicating the intended orientation from the inventor himself, Seth Wheeler. So, there you have it right from the inventor's um...pen? Here's a link to the article and for your viewing pleasure (and proof to show those that insist on 'under'), a photo. You're welcome. mentalfloss.com/article/67036/proper-way-hang-roll-toilet-paper

I, for one, had no questions but so glad to hear that I'm right. *snort*

Eh. He just didn't know better. Probably didn't have cats. If I put it on that way, the cats can unravel the whole dang roll onto the floor. If I put it on the other way, it just spins in circles. Plus, if I lose the end, it is easier for me to find it the other way.

Yes, over is correct, but under is correct for anyone who has cats!

I have cats and have no problems with them unrolling the tp even though we have the roll on so it comes over the top.

I've had cats and t.p. hung to roll over the top all my life and never have the twain met!
