I really enjoy True Crime books and learning about cases online. Just wondering what are some "must reads" that are true crime. Thx

My favorite true crime author is Ann Rule, who passed away this year She was local to us and used to work for Seattle PD. I love true crime so I will be watching for some good books too

In Cold Blood is the standard. Ann a Rule has some good ones --the two best are The Stranger Beside Me (Ted Bundy) and her Green River Killer book. Aphrodite Jones has a few that are interesting -- I think Cruel Sacrifice probably was the best.

I have a different Green River Killer book which was pretty good, but it was published before they caught him. Night Stalker scared the crap out of me. I still can't sleep with windows open.

Night stalker was local to us. I was terrified! His final attack was very close and a school friend of my daughter in Jr. High helped identify him. Scary time!!

I'm a true crime fan myself. Some of the books I have read on the following cases have stuck with me for years.
Darlie Routier: I still cannot decide if she is guilty or not, even after reading several books on the case and following online. Two of the books about her are: Hush Little Babies and Precious Angels
Della "Dante" Sutorious: Della's Web by Aphrodite Jones
Sante and Kenny Kimes: Son of a Grifter by Kent Walker
Dana Sue Gray: To Die For by Kathy Braidhill
Piper Rountree: Die, My Love by Kathryn Casey
Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka: I've read several books about them. Deadly Innocence by Scott Burnside is a good one.
So many books by Ann Rule. I prefer the ones she wrote that were full-length about one particular case. Lust Killer about Jerome Brudos is one of the freakiest books I've ever read. Heart Full of Lies about Liysa Northon was interesting. Everything She Ever Wanted about Pat Allison was very good. I think I have read every one of her full-length books and many of her "Crime Files" books too, which are compilations of several cases.
Darker Than Night by Tom Henderson is somewhat local to me, so I was very interested in it. Even if I didn't know of the places though, it would still be a very good read. It took place around Mikado, Michigan. It's about a crime that took decades to solve because the witness to the murders was too terrified to come forward.
Perfect Victim by Carla Norton. A very bizarre tale of a woman held captive and kept in a 'head box' by a married couple.
I'll stop now but if you need more, let me know, haha. ETA: If you enjoy reading about cases online, Websleuths is an awesome website. I have followed many many cases there. The people on there are sharp! It's like being in the middle of the investigation yourself. I'm currently following several cases on there.

Helter Skelter has always been my favorite.
Another one I loved (although that seems like an inappropriate word to use) is "Someone Else's Daughter":
Some parts of it were very difficult to read, and I know people who couldn't get through it. It haunted me for a long time after reading it.

Right now I'm reading "Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa" by Micael Finkel. It's about Chistian Longo who murdered his wife and 3 kids, then stole the author's identity while on the run.
It's an interesting read with lots of insight into his personality. There's a movie out about the murders, but I have no interest in seeing it at this point.
