Remodeling. Idea just popped up to carpet instead of tile. I like a bath mat but the rest of the floor seems cold with tile and I dislike little rugs.

There was a thread on here recently about people few it the stomach bug and having stuff coming out of both ends. That right there would stop me from having carpet in my bathroom.

We bought this house with carpet in the main bathroom. As soon as I saw when we looked at the house I told my husband it had to go. It's germ cesspool. I hate it.

How about a heated tile floor? Or do what we do, which is to have rugs in front of the sinks and outside the shower, rugs that can be laundered as often as you want.

If you want your bathroom to be even germier than it normally is, go for it!
Slippers or radiant floor heating to combat the chill.

There are pros to carpeting a bathroom? That's like carpeting the kitchen. Think about how gross that will get. A bathmat can be easily washed, wall to wall cannot. That along makes carpet in the bathroom a big fat "EW NOT HAPPENING EVER" in my book. And there are different sized bath mats... not just tiny ones.

I can't think of any pros to carpeting a bathroom. But I am a germophobe! I don't like to walk barefoot in a bathroom anyway unless I just cleaned the entire bathroom (yes, I admit I am weird). I always were slippers so I don't have the cold floor problem.
But it's your house, so do what works for you!

I had a carpeted bathroom in our last house - I felt like I was constantly shampooing that carpet and it still seemed gross - never again

In Norway I can't think of a single bathroom that has been remodeled in the last 20 years that DOESN'T have a heated tile floor. It gets cold here in winter, so it's a necessity for us. I absolutely HATE using my parent's small guest bathroom in winter, because it is always freezing cold. I always use the downstairs bathroom because it has heated tile floors, it is so worth going the extra yards and stairs for (even in the middle of the night).
I have never seen a carpeted bathroom floor in Norway. I went to England on a school trip in the 90's and we were all fascinated by the carpeted bedroom. And even more disgusted. I can't think of a more unsanitary way to remodel a room.
Are there really pros to having a carpeted bathroom? The only experience I have with it is from that school trip, so I am curious to know what the pros would be.
But I agree with the smaller rugs, they can be extremely annoying. Always having to put them back properly.

I cannot think of a single pro to carpeting the bathroom! They are dirty messy places.
I'm not a fan of carpet at all personally. Our entire 2600 sq ft. house is tile. Continuous from one corner of the house to the opposite corner. We even tiled the back porch the same!
You can get in floor heating for the tile. You could do wood/laminate which is slightly lower on the ick scale as far as being able to get it really clean. Wood isn't a good option in an area where there is a lot of water.
You could do vinyl flooring, less cold than tile but at the bottom of the scale as far as resale value and durability.

Lol!! Okay. I see your points!! As fast as the thought popped in my head I shall now pop in right back out and focus on tile and pretty rugs. Thanks a bunch! My first EVER remodel of ANY room. So I'm feeling my way through.

Nope, nope, nope! There is not one single reason I can think of where I would ever want carpet in a bathroom. In spite of rigorous cleaning, I can't keep my tiled bathrooms from faintly smelling like old man pee, I can't even imagine how much nastier it would be with carpet in there. Just gross.
One other con that no one has mentioned yet, and that is the inevitable toilet overflow situation. The first time that happens, the carpet would be toast. Or, like what happened at my sister's house. One of her kids overflowed the bathtub--TWICE! Same thing. Once that carpet gets wet, any hidden smells will come right back up. Eww.

I recently ripped the carpet out of everywhere and I'd be happy to live without carpet ever again. No way would I EVER put it in a bathroom...ever. Not even toilet overflow, just normal handwashing & shower drips & spills and it will all be rotting away underneath and probably growing mould as well as all the other germs happily multiplying in there.
I can't even imagine how disgusting that carpet would be after a few months.

We have three bathrooms- powder room downstairs is wood floor, dd's' bathroom is tile, and our master bath is carpeted. The master bath does have a separate toilet area that is tile-- I definitely wouldnt want a toilet area carpeted. I like the rest of the bathroom carpeted, though. It's soft and warm. It's actually one of the only rooms in the house with carpet - the rest is wood flooring. Since the toilet area is tile I'm not sure why anyone would think it is germy? That said, if I was chosing flooring Id probably chose tile.

My English neighbor in Los Angeles has a carpeted bathroom. Every time I see it my Spidey senses tingle: carpet in bathroom = wrong, too many bodily fluids stuck in too many synthetic fibers.

There was carpet in our master bath when we moved into our house. It wasn't around the toilet so no toilet problems with carpet. It did go against the bathtub. The carpet was so nasty by the tub. Water dripping on the carpet as we stepped out just matted all the dirt and dog hair to the edges of the carpet. I could never get it clean. I was so happy when we ripped out the carpet and put tile down. Much easier to clean now.

NEVER! I toss my bathmats every year or two when they can no longer be washed, what would you do with installed carpet.
If you want a warm floor put in radiant under tile heating. It was the best thing we ever, ever did.
