I had several friends who went to the fight. I'm surprised that DSO didn't go because he watches it on TV all the time. UFC (or "cage fighting" as the media and opponents of the sport like to call it) was banned here in this state until recently. This is the first ever UFC event to be held here. I haven't heard yet what the crowd ended up being, but they were expecting a sell out and over 50,000 there. I daresay there will be more events held here now.
I was hoping that Holly won. I certainly didn't expect it to happen the way it did.

My DS just came in to tell me the news and was aghast that I didn't recognize the name. He saw her at an event at Levi Stadium a while back.

Ok c'mon ladies, spoil it for me. I take it that Ronda lost, but what has you all so surprised? Do tell . . .

I didn't watch, but saw a photo on twitter this morning. You could just about feel her disorientation through the computer screen.

Maybe she shouldn't of gotten so cocky? She was all over tv saying she'll beat anyone. Even said she'd beat some guy. I don't watch but when I saw her on the news I said she just jinxed herself.

She got knocked out in only the 2nd round by one of Holms impressive high kicks to the head. Rousey was favored to win, although she hadn't fought anybody quite like Holms before. She usually can back up all her sass talk but not this time.

According to my son, its the EA Sports curse. As soon as EA Sports puts you on a video game, your going down. He said it before the fight. They kept advertising the new video game during the broadcast. FWIW, Rhonda didn't look like her normal self. Holly obviously came out well prepared.

Rousey is an amazing fighter. But Holms has many other titles, and ronda hadn't had an opponent like her yet and it was too bad for her....

Not sure. Holms did say she would fight her again as she didn't believe Rousey gave it her all..

I heard that she's hospitalized this morning. Hopefully it's just precautionary.

I hate to be the killjoy here, but I find it disturbing that a sport is allowed that encourages getting knocked out by kicking people in the head. And FWIW I find boxing equally disturbing, but this stuff seems like even more contact-ish.

It's a sport that they enter into willingly, train hard to excel at, and strive to reign.

I agree but also Rousey didn't fight a smart fight, her strength is on the ground and she seems to always want to prove that she can fight anyone standing up, and it didn't work for her last night... she should have been trying to take Holly to the ground as much as she could.

Exactly - her success comes from her judo background... She's strong on the ground... Holly's a boxer and kick boxer, with an acro background... She's fast and agile in an upright fight, and can keep her energy/intensity up... Her fights depend on her being able to keep going... Ronda tried to beat Holly at Holly's game and she looked slow and sluggish... I wonder how it would have turned out if she had kept to her strengths... If she turned it into a ground and grappling fight, she may have done better...
