Has anyone successfully die cut thin wood veneer? If you did, what kind of die and machine did you use?

I have cut thin wood veneer on my Silhouette Portrait. From memory I used the preset settings for chipboard and it cut very cleanly. The product I used was this - www.papertrenz.com.au/categories/groovy-stuff-sticky-barc.asp which I have seen for sale on lots of sites . It's not a thick veneer but is real wood and comes in a couple of colours too. I think it would cut like a dream in a manual die cutter too but haven't tried it yet. Years ago we bought similar but slightly thicker wood veneer from our local hardware store for refinishing a buffet top and that might be worth trying too.

kirsty thanks for the response. I had almost given up hope that anybody would reply. I clicked on your link to the wood veneer and that is similar to what I have. Mine is pretty thin but I was hesitant to run it through my Cameo. I'll try it with the chipboard setting. I never thought about using that setting. My veneer is not thicker than chipboard and I just want basic shapes that do not require intricate cuts. I noticed that your reply to my question was your first post and I just wanted to say, WELCOME! I hope you like it here as much as I do. You will find many creative, smart, funny and helpful ladies on this board.

Use some painters tape and tape the edges down to the mat. I have chipboard shift on me when I cut it. The Cameo is using so much pressure and it double cuts on that setting - so you don't want it to move at all. A little blue painters tape will secure it down!

Hmmmm, I just looked at a very thing veneer last night at HL. A long, thin strip for $3.99. I would guess it was a yard long and about 4-5 wide. I almost got it but we were getting some Christmas items and I didn't want to chance breaking it. I did see a video last week, Kristina, Nichol or Jennifer, that had used the manual die machine to cut something. They said it worked great.
I had wondered about using my Portrait and didn't want to mess it up. I may have to grab some and give it a try.

I had 2 people cut wood for me. I got oodles of shapes and I was pleased with all of it. I don't think either of them are doing wood cutting any longer, though. I have the best stars and things. Too cool!
