I have never been one to make separate meals for adults and kids. When looking at recipes, I don't make things that I know all of the kids will complain about, but I do make things that I know they won't all like. This summer we got into the habit of eating out too often (pizza, fast food, etc) due to baseball games. I am trying to get out of that and am also focusing on health. I have been making healthy food at home for awhile now, but we had the junk on the days we ate out that I think compensated for the healthy food, if that makes sense. They would have something they liked when we went out, so that made the days of eating things they don't like less often. Anyway, the kids are doing more complaining about food now that we are not eating out as often and I am making food at home. I need some other ideas for healthy foods that kids will like. I am limited on time many nights, so the crock pot is my friend (or other meals that are quick but healthy). Also, what are your rules about trying foods and/or having something else? I generally say that they can have fruit or veggies anytime. Sometimes I will let them choose something else that is easy if they haven't eaten any of the meal, othertimes I don't (depends on what we were having).
The things I have made recently are (I don't necessarily consider ribs "healthy", but it is real food, not processed):
Chili--had this tonight. I was at knowledge bowl with one kid, DH was at work and the other three were home. None of the three that were home want to eat chili and one is crying because I didn't get him a treat from the gas station on the way home (which apparently the oldest told him I was doing).
BBQ ribs/salmon/potatoes/salad--that was last night. Everyone tried it, but only one really liked it and ate all of the items. Only one liked the potatoes (they don't like potatoes much at all, but these were good).
Turkey meatballs, sauce, noodles--everyone likes this
Pulled pork--this went over ok

My kids like chicken cooked just about any way so I'll do chicken, oven roasted veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini) tossed with a spritz of EVOO and a couple of tbsps of grated parm cheese. We also do chicken tacos or chicken quesadillas. I also make a breakfast bake that they all like with shredded hash browns, ham, half egg whites/half whole eggs and some low fat cheese. We also do baked chicken parm (vs fried) with whole grain pasta and salad. I like to make homemade soups and stews and I usually have one complainer with each meal and they can have a pb sandwich if they don't like what I'm serving...but that also means that they don't get dessert if we're having any that night.

I made Smitten Kirchen's Broccoli Cheese soup for dinner tonight. My kids love this soup. Pioneer Woman's Chicken and Noodles is another recipe my kids like.
Chicken Lettuce wraps are another favorite.
I will cook pork in the crock pot with a green salsa. Shred it and serve in corn tortillas with cheese, salsa, lettuce, guac etc.
Beef stew is another crock pot friendly meal that my kids love.

I make quite a few healthy dishes that my kids like, especially meatless dishes. Some favorites are dal (a sort of sauce made with Indian-spiced lentils or split peas) over rice, black bean and rice burritos, spinach enchiladas, lentil tacos, and black bean burgers. I also make lots of soups in the fall and winter, and while I have a few creamy and less healthy ones, most are pretty healthy and everyone likes them. I make split pea soup (usually with a little ham), and various bean soups. Other healthy things I make pretty often that my kids love are salmon (I have several different recipes) and chicken kabobs (or even simple grilled chicken).

Salad night. My guys poo poo it verbally when we talk food but in actuality they really like it.
I do grilled chicken, spring mix and spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, nuts, mandarin oranges, green peppers, carrot shreds, onion and croutons.
They eat by the platefuls!

My kids like stir-fries. You can use any kind of meat you have on hand. I even use ground beef. Pick the veggies you know they'll eat. Serve it over rice or noodles.
