There was only one other Lisa in my year at school and we were never in the same class. The most common girls' names when I was at school (I was born in early 70's) were Caroline and Lesley. Other popular ones were Claire, Shona, Susan, and Angela. The most common names now seem to be Niamh, Katie, Eilidh, Lucy, and Sophie. Take a look at my blog to find out what I've been up to

Edited to add that I graduated in 1979.

I am a Judy. There were many Judy/Judith's in my age bracket. (Born in the 50's and 60's) I have taught for 32 years. I have never had a Judy in my classes in all of those years. I'm a dinosaur in more ways than one!

In my kindergarten class, there were four Stephanies and a few Jennifers. I'm a Stephanie. Seems like in the 70s (OH MY GOD I WAS BORN IN THE 70s) those were super popular names.

When I was in school, it was the Michelles, Jennifers and the Stacey/Traceys that made up the bulk of the names.

I was born in 1970 and was dubbed Susan. It was very popular name. I remember in high school one year, there were four of us in one class. Luckily we all had different initials in our last names and we went by SusanB, SusanP, SusanG, and SusanJ.

I was born in 1973. Melissa, Michelle/Rochelle (they all went by some spelling variant of Shelly), and Nicole were big. Jeremy, Chad, Derek and Christopher were the duplicated names in the boys.

I was born in 1960 and my name is Debbie. It was a very popular name. There were four in my class.
Recently my friends and I were talking about our names and how we never hear these names being used now a days. The names were Linda, Pam, Susan, Judy, Janice, Karen, Margie, Teresa, Wendy and Carol. I wonder if any of them will make a come back.

There were six Susans in my class at primary school, two of them with the same surname, but unrelated.

Jennifer was by far the leader (Mom swears she didn't know anyone else with a Jennifer), followed by Stephanie and Kimberly. I rarely had a class without another Jennifer when I was in school.

Their grandkids will remember them fondly and want to name a child after them. Popular names for my school and age was Diane/Diana and Terri. We had two Terries (both girls) and two Dianes with a Diana which doesn't sound like a lot but with 12 girls in the class it is a bunch! I'm another one with a name that very pointedly is tied to a specific decade.

When I named my dd Angela, born in 1971, I was so proud of myself for coming up with that name. Ha ! Her preschool class was full of Angelas !!!
Same thing with Melissa born a few years later. Oh well, we all really like both names.

This is interesting because you can tell how old people are just by the popular names. But, some of this is obviously regional. As in the OP, I have never met a Shona. As someone who delivers babies for a living, I can also say I have never delivered or heard of someone delivering a Niamh or an Eilidh!
I was born in the mid-60's. I was the only Melissa in my grade and one of 2 in the entire school district when I was in elementary school. The Melissa trend did not come around until the 70's when all of a sudden I'd hear my name and a toddler would come running by! Before that, it was an unusual name. I could never find anything with my name pre-printed on it in a store. It was a big deal when my mom special ordered pencils with my name on them. LOL.
When I was in school, there were multiple Katherine/Kathleens (some with a C), and plenty of girls named Lisa, Karen, and a Michelle. A few named Susan, Judy, Jeanne, and Diane/Diana as well.

Lisa! Also Susan, Elizabeth, some version of Deborah, Sherry, Karen, Cindy, Julie. My mother actually tried for a unique name and managed to predict a trend by naming me Paige----in 1960. When I was growing up, I was the only one; now, they're everywhere.
