My brother and SIL will be here tonight around 8PM. DH and I got a lot done yesterday and last night, but I still have quite a bit to do. My list: Dusting 1/2 the houseVacuuming 1/2 (Ending up doing entire, because, you know...dog hair. I HATE mopping dog hair all over the floor. ) the houseChanging sheets on master bedCleaning up dining room table and my deskWiping down stainless appliancesMopping the entire house Cleaning master bathroomFind a place, somewhere in there, to walk the dog. Make me get off my butt! (Or, if you live close by...please stop by and jump in on the fun! )

Actually, I say don't worry about it! I'm sure your house is fine. I think you're going overboard.

My in laws are coming from England tomorrow morning. My list is five times as long as yours, embarrassingly. Normally I would crack down and do it but my little one has FOUR teeth coming at once and I have had him clinging to me for the last week, 24 hours a day. I'm so sore from hauling him around, it's not funny.
I hope you get your list checked off quickly!

I {guarantee} if we came, you'd get nothing done!! Ha!!

Setting the 15 minute timer works well to motivate me. I'd give each of those jobs 15 minutes & call it good so you'll be done in 2 hours. Just do what you can in 15 minutes then move on to the next item on the list. I would put master bedroom & bath way down on the list unless your guests will be sleeping there. Good luck! My bedroom is a disaster & I need to buckle down today.

My mother is coming to stay Sunday. The guest room is a mess as it is also my craft storage area. The way it is now you can't even sit on the bed. I have today to get it done because there is a big event tomorrow at dh's karate school. So, what am I doing about it? Drinking coffee and peaing.

Just remember they're coming to see you not your house or your cleaning/tidying skills.

Clean up the dining room table and desk Vacuum if you have pets or it's really been a long time Walk the dog Wipe down the stainless steel appliance Pour a glass of wine and wait for you guests to arrive.
Unless you're giving up your room for your guests, don't worry about the master bedroom and bath.

Unless you're giving up your room for your guests, don't worry about the master bedroom and bath. I, at least, need to change the sheets. It will be 20 degrees cooler (30's-40's) starting tonight. Winter has FINALLY arrived. I need my warm blanket!

That's why I don't like to have company. My house is always a mess! My kids never put their stuff away, so I spend all day picking up their clutter and never get to the actually deep cleaning (which I actually like).
My husband's sister and brother in law are coming tomorrow. I get way more stressed about the house when it's inlaws than when it's my family. They stay in a hotel, which is great, but they will come over for dinner, so I would like the house to look decent. No reason for any company to go upstairs, so I just make sure the first floor is clean. Cuts my cleaning in half!
It's going to be colder here this weekend too, which I am not happy about. We usually have rain all month of Oct. and Nov. and we don't see the sun much, but this fall has been very decent, sunny days and 60s. I wish the 60s would stay all winter. We would have the best time doing Christmas outdoor decorating in nice weather.

I am out of school for two weeks due to having an aneurysm removed from the top of my foot. The surgery was easy and painless, but I can't walk long distances or wear shoes. Since I'm housebound I have tackled a huge list of chores that have been put off for ages. But it seems the more I do the longer the list!
My recommendation is to put off until next year what should be done today because as soon as you finish one thing you will keep noticing what isn't done. Company won't notice the small stuff so unless your house smells or the dust bunnies are actually rolling across your floor keep the lights low and call it a day.

If my husband's family comes to visit, he starts cleaning about two days prior. It is spotless when they get here. I end up cooking, so I let him do most of the cleaning.

DH has done his main part, and I am doing the rest. He usually vacuums, but I need to do it this time, because I have to steam, and I like to clean the bathroom and take a shower after doing that, cause I get sweaty.

You will be done long before they get there. One nice thing about cleaning for company is that you have a pretty clean house when they leave.

I can relate to the dog problems. Our beagle is a shedding maniac. When I'm not home I don't miss her because I can just check out my pants and it's like she's there with me. I walk around looking like Chewbacca's lost child who was never taught to properly shave her legs.
We also have a standard poodle who has paws the size of dinner plates. I've tried to teach him to delicately wipe his paws as he enters the house. Instead I've settled for just being happy that he doesn't try ball room dancing with me when he comes in. He is always SO happy to see me after FIVE.. WHOLE...MINUTES being outside without me. I've decided not to mop the floor anymore and just say the paw prints are artwork and call it a day.

I totally feel your pain! We can bring home something brand new, lay it on the back of the couch...and 2 seconds later, it has at LEAST 1 hair on it...then, well, you know! I've decided not to mop the floor anymore and just say the paw prints are artwork and call it a day. I wish my mopping was due to paw prints...but it's due to nasty, sticky, stubborn slobber spots that won't come up with just a quick sweap of the Bona mop. Oh, no. I HAVE to steam them, or they will not go away. SO gross.

I woke up to my husband cleaning the wood floors this morning. He was grumbling about how much the corgi drools. Personally I think it is his nose dripping. Gotta love those fur babies.

I have 24 coming for dinner on Thursday and have to work MTW. So I have to do all the housecleaning this weekend and tidy up the yard on top of that. AND all the grocery shopping. No, I've not even bought a turkey yet I wouldn't worry so much if were just immediate family, but we have 'adopted' a couple of soldiers for the day and we have some extended family coming that don't typically visit my house. So I will be more self conscious of every little thing. I feel you - I have had something every single night this week after work and am leaving in about 10 minutes to drive to DD's swim meet an hour away. Won't be home until 11 or 12 tonight. So I have a LOT to do! Then I'll pray that while the kids are home next week and i'm working they won't undo every little thing I get done this weekend! Good luck!
