So, feel free to laugh at me...
How do you make a healthy fruit salad? No dressing, juicy stuff, etc... Just fresh fruit. Just dump it in a bowl? It can't be that easy, can it?

That is exactly how I make fruit salad.

It can be as simply as dumping fruit in a bowl but most dressings are there to slow the oxidation of some of the fruits so you don't have brown apples and bananas.

It is exactly that easy. I wouldn't put apples or bananas in a fruit salad under any circumstances, and I think "dressing" kind of ruins the point of having a fruit salad!

A little citrus juice drizzled over would help keep fruit from turning if it's going to sit long.

A berry and grape fruit salad doesn't have any risk of turning brown if it sits out. I don't care for bananas in fruit salad, the flavor takes over every other fruit.

I mean, I've seen some sort of fluffy "dip" served with fruit, but I've never tried it. Fruit is already sweet, I don't think it needs anything else (ok, I do put a little sugar on berries if they are tart, but that's it)

If you want apples & bananas & pears in your fruit salad, let these cut fruits sit in sprite or other lemon-lime soda for a couple of hours.
A sprinkle of "Fruit Fresh" before you set out the fruit salad bowl. Fruit fresh is simply Vit C, which stops the fruit from spoiling.

i sprinkle a tiny bit of sugar on and toss it and then put it in the fridge, gives it a teeny bit of a "dressing", brings out the juices, its shiny and pretty, lol. big departure from my mom's cool whip, marshmallow and fruit cocktail concoction!

I leave them out of undressed salads. OTOH, they are the cheaper fruits typically and make a larger bowl of fruit salad cheaper than an all berry mix. If you are going to use them plan to do the peeling and slicing right before serving.

I simmer the juice of two lemons, two oranges, the zests, a stick of cinnamon and about a third cup of brown sugar for about 10 minutes or so. Cool completely. Then I cut up a huge bowl of fresh fruit like pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, peaches, kiwi, whatever looks good at the grocery store with the exception of bananas. Remove cinnamon stick from sauce and pour over fruit.
My family adores this salad! The sauce adds a bit of sweetness and spice, a nice shiney glaze and it prevents the fruit from browning.

I use a big glass straight side bowl. Cut up cantaloupe as first layer, then halved or quartered green grapes, then use an egg slicer and do a layer of strawberries. Top with blackberries or blueberries. I've never dressed a salad.

Y'all are so organized!! Fruit salad in my world is whatever is on sale at Publix that week, cut up and thrown in a bowl. Excluding bananas. I hate bananas. (happy memory: every single solitary Christmas of my life my mama cuts up oranges for breakfast. She calls it fruit salad, but there is nothing in there but oranges so I am not sure why she calls it that. But every Christmas, there it is, cut up oranges. I think it started with her grandparents who lived in the middle of an orange grove. )

I give apples and bananas a "bath" in fruit fresh prior to putting in the salad. (mix fruit fresh with some water)
Fruit Fresh is just citrus acid, so...........

I have used nonfat yogurt mixed with a bit of Watkins dip powder that came in a tangerine flavor. It gives the fruit that creamy dressing component without using a heavy, fat laden, dressing that contains cream cheese or some other delicious ingredient.
Unfortunately, I don't think Watkins has that dip powder any longer. I haven't checked around since I still have a few unopened jars of it, but hopefully someone makes a simlar product.
Kathy, that cinnamon stick mixture sounds wonderful. I am definitely going to try that. Thank you for sharing it!

For citrus I used to add orange juice but then discovered using some canned pineapple and adding the juice from one of the cans worked quite nicely as a good thing to pour over and mix in for all the fruit.

I tend to make my fruit salad for July 4th - so it's red, white, blue and gold - strawberries cut up, seedless grapes halved, blueberries and pineapple, all fresh. Doesn't need anything else as they are all pretty juicy.

No dressing. We have fruit salad pretty much every day from April until October. Our favorite is a mixture of 4-6 of the following: berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and/or blackberries ~ whatever ones are in season), watermelon and/or cantaloupe, nectarines, bananas, pineapple, etc.

If I want something on it, I'll sometimes pour a bit of peach juice from canned peaches over it. But usually, I just put fruit in a bowl and mix it up with nothing poured over top.

I thought fruit salad was just fruit cut up and mixed around. I can't imagine what kind of dressing or other stuff would go on it? I hate fruit salad so I can't be sure about that, but that's what my husband would eat and call 'fruit salad'.
ETA: I do eat cut up apples for lunch every day and I just toss them in a tiny bit of lemon juice to stop the browning/oxidation. So no need for a dressing.

I just do fresh fruit. I don't do bananas because I don't care for them. But, I do apples. I just make sure I also have cut up pieces of fresh orange and toss those with the apples before adding them to the salad. It's enough citric acid that my apples don't turn brown.
I don't care for any type of dressing on my fruit salad.

My mom used to make a dressing that had sour cream, powdered sugar and coconut. It was my favorite as a kid. I think the salad even had mini marshmallows. As an adult I just cut up fruit and toss it in a bowl. My fruit salad usually has berries, melons, pineapple and kiwi.
