Many of us have talked about our papers and our embellishments either being consistently on-trend or standing the test of time. About the fact that no one will really be looking up when a paper was released 10-20 years down the line, they'll just be looking at the photos on the layouts. But what about the journalling or theme of the pages? I'm betting most of you are not like me, where your lives are lived mostly on the internet so you're awash in Leet, r/ subcategories, and LOL speak constantly. But there are many products out now with things like hashtags, selfie references, iPhone stamps, app icons, instagram references... all kinds of things that will probably look about as hip as that MySpace account you worked on as a teen, or that AIM profile that had to be *just right* in 1996 so all your friends knew how kewl you were. Do you guys include things like this? Do you slip a meme joke into your PL? Do you quote a popular song for journalling or titles? Hoping that it'll show a sign of the times, or later remind you of what the culture was like in the twenty-teens. Or do you avoid the whole thing all together and make your pages more generic so they won't "age", as it were. (I'm not saying one is better than the other. It's not a debate that whatever *you* like in your books is what you should do. )

I made a page called "hey girls", the title was inspired by those "hey girl" memes. I'm not sure in 50 years from now anyone will know about "hey girl", and if they do, I doubt my page will really make a notable connection to internet memes from 2014.
I have thought about popular culture references in scrapbooking, especially phrases and stuff we use now. I mean, how many of us are familiar with "killroy was here", but know where it actually came from/how it was used/what people thought about it in the 50s? Wouldn't it be cool if you had a scrapbook from back then using it in context or explaining the significance?

I am soooooo not cool or into the latest stuff. I did create a single page about my Instagram photos.... that's about as 'twenty-teens' as I get.

Am I the only person who doesn't know what a meme is?

I add tidbits here and there because, hey, that's what's going on right now. Some day it will all feel so dated, that's kinda the point for those pages.

Scrap memes? Absolutely! I think we'll love laughing about them in the future.

I tend to think of my albums in a more old-fashioned way, documenting family photos. I honestly never thought about including cultural and world events. As the mother of teenagers, memes and their life online is probably a lot more significant to them than a family barbecue.

I include those things; why not? They're part of my life now. If my grandparents had a scrapbook that included pop culture of their day, I would have loved seeing it. I say go for it!

I include some in there, if it's relevant to the story I'm telling. I think they'll just be fun things to look back on.

My life is online, too, so I like to throw that stuff in. I like the nostalgia I feel, like when I hear an old song. I might not be able to pinpoint the year, but I like being reminded of how I felt when I heard a song or revisited some slang!

I was just thinking about this when I saw a new Bella Blvd line that has some "Keep Calm and -----" (isn't that actually outdated already?) sayings and sayings with hashtags. I decided against buying them.

I think this is an interesting topic. I know I don't use Twitter or hashtags so I avoid buying those products knowing I have no use for them, but I do like the idea that they would be a snapshot in time. Even if they are still current in another 10 or 20 years, it would be interesting to see how our use of them has changed over time. I really like the idea of capturing snippets of the everyday like this in my albums but I'm not very good at it.
