I have questions... what is your process? I need to get a better consistent process for downloading my photos from the memory card. I have 2000+ photos on my memory card and am paranoid to format it in case I've missed uploading one to my computer. There has to be a better way. Please tell me in ... detail... what you do and how often. Thanks,

I download pics from my camera just before or after a big picture taking event, or as the seasons change. I also do a download at New Years.
I use iPhoto, so it knows what pics from my card have already been downloaded so I don't worry about missing any. Even then, I am sometimes reluctant to erase my card because I see it as backup storage.

I download photos at least once a week or after any big picture taking event (some weeks are picture heavy).
I use the cord and select open folders to view files. I transfer by cut and paste into folders by year and subfolders by date (today's photos will be in the subfolder 2015_11_24). I usually add a short description to the end of the subfolder name (so Thursday the subfolder will be 2015_11_26 Thanskgiving)
My photos library is automatically backed up by Carbonite (cloud backup). I also upload a sampling to Facebook usually shortly after downloading from the camera which is a secondary backup for me of the best photos/memories. Periodically I backup manually to an external drive - not as often as I ought to though. I always do it the week between Christmas and New Years and try to remember to do it other times also.

It drives my husband crazy, he trusts computers. We have a few back up external hard drives, one kept at another location. But I like to have my memory cards too. I have been doing that for a few years now. Of course I don't delete any pictures off memory card, so if something ever happened and I had to put the memory cards back on, it will take months to delete the blurry/extra pictures (I take 5 pictures of each pose!). But it would be worth it!

I have an Eye-fi memory card in my camera - it wirelessly transfers my photos to my computer, so I don't have to worry about it! It is awesome, and I love it! I always used to remove my memory card and put it into my laptop to upload them, and I can't count the amount of times that I forgot to then put my card back INTO my camera once I was done Then went to take another picture and had no memory card!! I also have the photos set to upload into a 'watched' folder on my computer, which then automatically imports into Lightroom and tags it with the month and year. It has really streamlined my process! I love my Eye-fi card and don't know what I would do without it anymore!
