I worked hard in OT and PT yesterday and am paying the price today On top of that it's very short staffed here so when you ask for a pain pill you may be lucky enough to get it two hours later. If you keep pestering them. Frustrating to say the least! I think I'm going to crawl under the covers and hibernate. Sorry scrapmaven, I'm flaking on our Thanksgiving illusion What is everyone else doing and eating today?

I'm so sorry akathy. I hope that the pain subsides soon and that they bring you your pain meds faster than they have been. We are having grilled steak, sweet potato casserole, green beans, rolls, mashed potatoes, & stuffing. We've already had two Thanksgiving celebrations with turkey in the past month, so the family voted on steak for today. The inlaws are coming over and we are going to play bocce while it's nice and sunny out, and then we'll play a few board games and just hang out. Hope everyone is having a great day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Kathy, keep up the hard work and keep your eyes on the goal of becoming stronger and getting home. One year I ate a hospital T-day dinner in the hall outside my DH'S room wile he "enjoyed" his bag of TPN. I baked a pumpkin pie already and now the squash casserole is in the oven. We head over to my sister in law's for a 2:00 meal. For me, no dinner but I'm sure DH will be snacking on leftovers this evening.

Hi Kathy. I'm sorry you aren't feeling so well today. Hopefully you'll get that pain pill very soon and it will give you some relief! I'm just about to pop the turkey in the oven-all 22 lbs of it! I bought big this year so everyone could take home some leftovers-you know that's the best part;-) I double some of the casserole dishes so there's plenty of leftovers of them as well so everyone goes home with full containers and bellys. Happy Thanksgiving to you:)

I hope you get relief soon.
We're having a small turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy (turkey and veggie - dd is vegetarian), stuffing, broccoli-cheese casserole, salad, cranberries, pumpkin pie, chocolate pie, cherry/blueberry pie and rum cake. There will be LOTS of leftovers. It's just our little family here today. We are very lucky in that it is both mine and dh's AND my son's RDO's, so we don't have to work today. DD is dog sitting so she can make her own hours.

I am so sorry you're in pain today, akathy. I hope your day turns around and that you get the medical attention you need! My husband is out doing a photo shoot this morning and he's going to bring me home some soup from Panera for a light lunch. I need to get off my butt and clean the kitchen (so I can mess it up again ) and get the turkey started. We are going to eat around 4:30 or 5:00, just the two of us. We're having the traditional dinner: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread stuffing, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts and cranberry sauce. Pumpkin pie for dessert. Feeling blessed today for sure.

We had our Thanksgiving already here in Canada ... our next turkey is Christmas I hope you start getting your pain killers on a regular basis akathy! It sucks enough to be in hospital during the holidays ... being in pain makes it double the suckiness I have to ask dh which he wants ... we will be having either homemade chicken noodle soup or Pioneer Woman's Chicken Tortilla Soup ... I'm hoping for choice #2

I hope you have had your pain pill by now, kathy . I am stalking all the Turkey day threads because I am hungry. Dinner time here but my chief cook, DH, is under the gun finishing a presentation at the table and I don't want to interrupt him. Oven is on, a basic casserole tonight purely because it is quick. It is HOT here, not really casserole weather. Again, hope you get relief soon.

akathy, I am sorry. I hope you feel better very soon. It is just my little family of 5, and we are having non traditional slow cooked beef and vegetable stew for dinner tonight. I have however just finished making 2 apple pies. One for us and one for our neighbors. They are in the oven now, then it is time for me to have a nap

akathy hope you start getting your pain meds on time and the pain eases up. We are having turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine, cranberry sauce, relish tray (which is pickles and olives), bread with pesto dipping sauce, and my mom's pumpkin pie with either cool whip or whipped cream. We just finished brunch with the in laws-breakfast casserole and mils pistachio cake- we pretend it's a coffee cake, but it's really not. Lol.

akathy , sorry that your place is short-staffed. Perhaps try to find a way to be happy that a greater number of people are able to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Yeah, that won't be happening. I come from a family of cops, doctors, nurses, fireman and emergency type people who rarely got to spend holidays with their families. I'm happy for people who can but I don't think others should suffer for your choice if you take a job that doesn't accommodate it. And I've always felt that way even when I'm not sick.

{{hugs}} akathyWe eat later than a lot of people, so I'm prepping a pastry wrapped brie along with other cheeses, crackers & apples to nibble on while everything else is cooking. For dinner we are having lamp pops and rotisserie lamb, roasted turkey breast (because I have to have turkey), stuffing, mashed potatoes, orange/ginger glazed rainbow carrots, roasted brussel sprouts, sauteed green beans and fresh cranberry sauce. Dessert is apple pie and pumpkin cheesecake with ginger snap crust.

I'm glad you responded because I was trying hard not to step in and say something that might upset our nice happy little dinner-thread world. That was a horrible, thoughtless, and completely non-empathetic thing to say to someone who is hospitalized and in pain on a holiday, quiltz. You owe AKathy an apology, not a handslap.

I hope you'll be able to have a belated Thanksgiving feast sometime soon, Akathy!
I'm celebrating at my brother's house today. My contributions are dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Oh, and wine! My SIL is roasting the turkey and also making green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese and chocolate cream pie. I think there are only 7 of us this year so there should be plenty of leftovers for everyone.

Kathy, I hope you get your pain med soon and that you get some relief! We are going to my in loves house for dinner. It will be us 4, mom and dad and my bil. There will be turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing (yuck),homemade cranberry sauce, corn, rolls the size of your head (someone at my father in loves work makes them for him every year). I made Strawberry pecan pretzel salad It looked really good so I hope it is tasty. Umm, the only thing is I, in my sick haze forgot to buy strawberries. Sent Dh out to get some and there weren't any. So instead, it will be blueberries I ordered a dutch apple pie from a local bakery and my mother in love made a pumpkin pie. I picked up a few things for a caramel apple bar for the boys.. crushed graham crackers, mini marshmallows, sprinkles, mini m&ms, crushed pretzels, caramel and chocolate for dipping.

The food we ordered from a local restaurant was excellent, although we can't figure out what the fruit was in the stuffing. Lol. We knew we had way more than we would eat today, so we packaged up "leftovers" before warming up what we thought we would eat. Clean up consisted of picking up the foil pans and dropping them in the trash can. Garbage goes to the curb tonight, so we didn't even rinse. First Thanksgiving in years that I haven't been absolutely exhausted at the end of the day.

Eh. We had one of those very typical Thanksgiving meals...with so much left over that I will be eating left overs until Easter. akathy, if I were closer, I would come and pester the nurses for you. That really stinks that you have to be in pain and having to worry about advocating for your own pain relief. And if I were nearby I would make you a plate and stick in the freezer to enjoy later. I make a kick ass dressing that freezes nicely...

akathy, I'm sorry that you're in pain and being ignored. We can plan a Christmas feast later. I watched everyone enjoy a wonderful food fest, but my choices from the selections would have been lumpia and macaroni salad. Happy shopping everyone.

One last thing. I know it might seem strange when akathy and I post about what we would eat, but being a non-eater on a major food holiday is hard. We might put on our brave face, but it's a bitter reminder of our illness and our deprivation. For akathy it's amplified, because she's in a cold rehab hospital w/o her family, starving and in pain. We all have our pain and loss and no one's should be minimized. Sometimes life sucks and today is one of those times for some of us. Wishing everyone on this thread peace through the holidays.
