With all the crap going on with my Mom, we decided we needed to get to Florida to collect her belongings there.
I have a van, and I had this last week free of cake orders, so we made plans and went.
I drove the entire way there (stopped one night on the way) - to just north of Miami.
Packed up her stuff in a matter of hours, loaded my van full, and began the drive home.
Of course, I HAD to stop in Orlando for a day - we spent a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom!
Then we drove home on your Thanksgiving day/Black Friday. Seriously the least traffic we saw all week was those two days!
Made it home by 6pm last night. No trouble at the border with a van full of cardboard boxes & bubble wrap.
I did it!!
I actually didn't mind driving - it made for a much better trip than being the passenger on that drive!

You did good! We are going to Florida today. But for us, it's just an hour's drive and we are at the beach.

Yay! I am going to drive to Florida today...oh wait. I live there. How was the weather when you were here? It has been kind of chilly since last weekend, but mostly sunny. There were a couple of cloudy times though, hopefully you missed all that.

It was warmer Tuesday though. And Wednesday at Disney it was great. Breezy, but I got away with my sleeveless blouse all day and into the evening as well. It did rain while we had lunch - we didn't even realize it! We were inside Columbia Harbour House and came out and the ground was wet everywhere. Great clear weather all the way home too! Until we got close to the lake/Erie and then it rained most of the drive home.

My boy was over at Disney earlier in the week and said that it was really crowded. I hope that it wasn't too bad for you guys, but even crowded it is a fun way to spend the day!!

We got there for the rope drop show at 7:45 and then got in right away. My camera was out of batteries so we got those first, and then waited 15 minutes to see Mickey. We walked on to Jingle Cruise, the park was fairly empty until about 9am - the most crowds were the stream coming in Main Street. It was fairly crowded all day though - lineup for Dumbo was an hour in the afternoon, so we skipped that! It was more about a leisurely day for me -Mom isn't into rides (I'm not either for the most part) so we did the simple ones - Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic, Carousel of Progress, People Mover, Tea Cups....and shopped and people watched and had a great dinner at Grand Floridian Cafe. It was a great day!

I hate hate hate that drive...especially through Pennsylvania~~~ Glad you got through the border ok?? Which bridge did you go over??? We crossed at Windsor/Detroit on the way down - Mom was super worried about all the snow early Sunday morning and driving along Lake Erie. I told the guy there (US side) we were going to collect her belongings in Florida. He asked why, I said she was separating. That was it. On the way home we came through the Peace Bridge - no issues at all. The guy was really great - I rolled down the back windows of the van and told him we had gone down to get her stuff and move it all home. He asked if most of it had been bought here in Canada (while nodding his head) and Mom said mostly. He just waved us through. Yay!

We had a great conversation with a guy at the Peace Bridge (coming back to the US) a couple weeks ago~ We had been at my godson's wedding in London. Glad you got through ok~~ Hope all is well with your mom too. Glad she is out of that situation.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed your quick Florida visit. You certainly came here the right time of the year. I hope the traffic down here wasn't too bad for you.

How is your mom doing with everything? Hopefully she is healing! I am so glad you helped her get out of that awful situation. She is doing amazingly well. We talked all the way there about stuff - every story she tells, every "memory" of something that is triggered so she can say it out loud, is helping her to peel another layer off. She's more herself than she has been in ages.

Sounds like the road trip was the right medicine for you and her. Glad the weather cooperated and you were driving on the "best" days of Thanksgiving week.

GO girl! I've driven to Florida and back from Maine with a girlfriend. Best road trip ever! Better than the Maine to Texas when I was 16 and newly licensed, following my Dad all the way. That St. Louis 14 lane highway during rush hour was scary!
