DH and I were awakened about 5:30 this morning by a very strange and unfamiliar sound. It was a downpour! It didn't last long but we were totally caught off guard. All our windows were open but luckily it was coming straight down so nothing inside got wet. Did anyone else hear it?

I live in Northern Ca (way north) and we haven't had any rain for a few weeks. I haven't missed it though

One of my favorite smells in the whole world is the smell of the first rain after a long dry spell. I hope you enjoyed!

Not today, but some drizzle yesterday both here (northeast bay) and in Berkeley. Not enough to make me happy.

Yep, some rain in Sacramento this a.m. and El Dorado Hills and Folsom has a bit yesterday (enough to completely wet down the streets).

My DH was in El Dorado Hills today dealing with that dishwasher fire in one of our rentals that I posted on another thread. I couldn't go with him because Comcast was coming out to install a second X1 box and we had already rescheduled once. We plan to retire up there in 2-5 years.

We had a small amount of rain Sunday night & this morning.
We moved here about 7 years ago from North Natomas and we have been in HEAVEN ever since. Our kids were 6th grade and 8th grade and it completely changed everything for them. They were doing fine in school but just never blossomed. Here, we have all blossomed and have been so happy. We are in an older neighborhood (developed in the late 1980's and the early 1990's--our home was built in 1991) where there are lots of trees and the homes are all custom (but not ostentatious). Everyday when I drive up the hill from freeway and then into our neighborhood area, I marvel at how beautiful it is here!!! I don't take it for granted for one minute.
Are you considering the newer areas or maybe a bit out in the country side? The country side is rapidly shrinking sadly.

We will move into the 2-story when we retire and stay there until we don't want to do stairs any longer then sell that house and move into the single-story which is in the village next to the library. We love the town center they built across the freeway. And we go to the Regal cinemas every Tuesday for date day so we'll be really close to the one up there. There were several other areas of older homes in EDH that we loved but when we bought (2003 and 2004) there was nothing. We were exchanging two properties here in the bay area so we had to buy what was available.

I did have to turn on the windshield wipers on the drive to work this morning around 6 a.m. I decided to take the umbrella into the office so, of course, I didn't need it.

If you bought in 2003 and 2004 then you have seen how much growth there has been. All that land south of the freeway gobbled up with houses. I had never been to El Dorado Hills before 2008. The traffic has become much more congested here but it still beats the best days in Natomas and down-town.

For us, adding the interchange at Silva Valley Pkwy will make it easier to get to the west side of 50 and on/off 50. We won't have to fight the traffic on El Dorado Blvd. Yes, the area/traffic has exploded. Most of the people that are moving there are from the Bay Area.

According to the weather on my phone, yes...we did...my car look a little spotted (I had it washed a few weeks ago.) And it was cloudy. I'm in San Jose.

I slept through it. I was so disappointed because I heard there was a lot of thunder and I LOVE thunderstorms. The dog didn't even wake up!

Yes we did. A few minutes of sprinkling Monday morning and then a short, but intense down pour this morning. My poor car looks awful because neither rain was enough to do anything but dent the layer of dust on it.

If it rained, I was oblivious. No, I don't think it did rain, I would have seen something I think...
I'm in Santa Cruz Co.

I'm in NC, and we have gotten a lot of bad thunderstorms and flash floods. Monday I got a flash flood warning on my cell phone, then lighting hit very very close to our townhouse. About 10 minutes later our fire alarms went off and wouldn't stop. I checked for smoke or the smell of burning. I hadn't been cooking. Nothing would make them stop. Dh came home to fix them.
The fire alarm in our upstairs hallway ceiling was WET. The builder didn't waterproof the attic vents and some areas of the roof, so our attic was flooded. The nice thing about renting is that we don't have to take care of this fiasco ourselves. Thankfully we didn't have much in the attic and nothing was damaged. (attic entry is just a small square in our master closet, so it's just easier to store stuff in the garage.)
Our landlord is insisting that the builder pull up the attic floor and check everything for mold. We told him that we would not live in a house with mold, and if there was mold, we would be outta there.
