I can't find my consignment agreement anywhere to consult so I'm asking the peas. I have had an item for sale on consignment at a local shop for 6 months. I check in periodically with the store owner and there's been no interest in my item. At some point is it ok for me to go in and get my item back so I can try to sell it on my own? Or does that go against consignment etiquette or something?

Normally there is an end date on the agreement. You could call the owner and let her know that you would like to come collect the item and try to sell it on your own at this point and ask her if you are at the end of your agreed end date yet? With the kids clothing consignment store I go to you agree that if you do not pick up the clothing by the end date (90 days) the store will mark down the items and sell them at a reduced price. You still get some money but they usually mark items down 50% so the owner gets quite a bit less.

Thanks Kathy.
I don't recall there being an end date on the paperwork she gave me and since it's my first time ever doing a consignment sale I didn't even think about this being a problem. I will have to go talk to her and see what I should do.

Your item will most likely be discounted down to nothing before it's donated if you don't pick it up after that amount of time That's the policy at the consignment shop I use. I admit that I found out the hard way.

When I did consignment I could come and get my items after 3 months, or she would continue to discount. If the items were still there after a certain time she would contact me to either pick up or she would donate.
Just contact the shop.
