My DD wants a pair of Doc Martens for Christmas. She is a size 5, which is not easy to find. I have found them at a couple different online sites, with a 30% discount for CyberMonday, no less, but the stores don't have great reviews. They are shoes.com and shoesonline.com. I'd rather use shoesonline because they also offer 10% cash back today through ebates. I'm a little concerned about customer service issues, however. We haven't been able to find a pair of 5s for her to try on, but from what I have read, they run a little large, so I think they would fit. Although Doc Martens uses European sizing, so I would be buying a UK 3. Shoebuy also has the 30% deal (and 12% off through Ebates), but they don't have her size. I called and they said I could buy the 4s today at the sale price and then exchange them later for the right size at the same price, but I'm a little leery, because they too have gotten bad reviews. Zappos, which has good reviews, doesn't have the 30% off deal.
So, if you've used any of these sites, can you let me know how your experience was? TIA.

I'd rather have to pay the extra 30% and be able to use Zappos, which has free shipping both ways and great customer service. Returns are super easy. Did you also check Amazon? I've gotten shoes from there. I have Prime so I don't pay extra to ship/return.

If she wears a size 5 you might be better off buying her a girls size 3 (kids dept) they are about $20-$30 cheaper there. I always buy shoes that way if they have them in kids. It might be worth it to then go through a more reputable site like zappos. (plus easiest returns ever if there is a problem).

You should look in the kids (girls) department. If she's a 5 in women's, she's a 3 in girls.
Cheaper that way.
Plus the girls dept often has more and cuter options.
I shop in the girls department all the time.

Zappos is AMAZING. I've never had a problem with them.
I like to check the reviews for opinions on the sizing. Because it's free shipping both ways, sometimes I buy two sizes and return one.

I have thought about the kids' sizing, but it's very confusing. All Doc Martens are sold in UK sizes. Their kids size charts show that a UK 3 is the equivalent of a US 4 (which in my mind would be a US women's 6). Likewise, a UK 2 is listed as being a US 3, which should be a women's 5, which is the size DD wears. However, about a month ago, a neighbor was selling a pair of UK 2 and they were too small for my DD.
Looking at the women's charts on their site, a UK 3 is the equivalent of a US 5 (which would be a kids 3). Both the kids and women's charts say that a UK 3 is equivalent to a European 36, so I take that to mean that the kids 3 and the women's 3 are the same.
I'm so confused! I'm on hold with Doc Martens right now (along with half of the rest of the world, apparently), to try to clarify

I wear a women's 5. I buy 99% of my shoes online. I use Zappos, 6 p.m.com, onlineshoes, amazon, etc. Happy with ALL of them. Your daughter will wear a 35. That should be listed in the sizing. I also wear a little girls 3 but I much prefer to find shoes that are sized by a 35 because it is definitely a more accurate fit for my foot. On occasion I can wear a 34 but my my fat foot prefers the 35. LOL!

I finally got through to an actual person, who said that the kids 3 and the women's 3 are a little different fit, with the women's being wider, which my DD probably needs. As much as I'd like to get the cheaper ones, I think I may have to go with the women's sizing.

I've used Zappos and have been happy. I've also used shoebuy several times with no problems.
And just for reference - I wear a 6 1/2 US and a UK 37.

OP Women's and youths are sized differently for Dr M's Youths UK size 3 = USA size 4 Women UK size 3 = USA size 5 link to size chart from Dr Marten websiteETA see you've already found the size chart. Yes the children's are narrower in width than anything else. DrM are not the run of the mill sizing though so it's difficult to compare them to "normal" shoe sizes. European sizes are not the exact sizing as the UK either it's the nearest conversion.

When it contradicts what I know, I start going by centimeters if there is a chart that shows it. I know the centimeters I need too so that's helpful for me. But a 35 is generally a 2 or 2.5 in UK sizing (a bit smaller than US).

I would go with whoever has the best return policy since you can't be sure of the size. Convenience outweighs the extra expense for me. YMMV.

It was pretty obvious I was talking about US sizing. Obviously you have to convert that to Doc sizing.
