I just spent 3 hours uploading photos to Costco. Three hours! That didn't even include selecting the photos, I did that yesterday.
First the upload then seeing the price and deciding I needed to be more picky about what I was printing then choosing what I wanted larger or smaller making some collages in Picasa for smaller photos uploading those pictures thinking of a cute page idea and having to find the photos in my Picasa albums and upload those (which are a mess so it took forever) tweaking the sizes again deleting more photos to get the price down deciding to send some photos to Walgreens because they have a coupon going (actually these were already uploaded there, I just like Costco better) taking those pictures out of my Costco photo cart getting ready to order from Walgreens ordering from Walgreens anyway but having to have the pictures shipped so I can get matte finish and paying shipping (which negates the 40% off coupon) finally placing my Costco order and it's still over $30 (even with sending 128 pictures to Walgreens)
and the sad part is, I ordered pictures in mid June so it wasn't even that huge of an order. I wish I could hire out the photo selecting, downloading, ordering, tweaking part. It is my least favorite part of scrapping!

I make all of the decisions you described before I upload anything. All photo editing, determining sizes, etc is all done at home on the laptop and I put copies of only the pics I want to print in a folder to upload, after sizing, editing, etc. This makes the upload/ordering process go a little smoother, for me anyway.
ETA: it's still super-time consuming, no matter the method!!!

I'm always amazed at how long it takes me to order my photo printing, too. Hours and hours, especially if you include the organizing time. Such a bummer!

Hate, hate, hate uploading pictures. My least favorite part of the scrapping process. A friend and I were just discussing how we have to get a better process for uploading pictures to order. I think I'm going to start making a separate folder of the pictures I want to print as soon as I upload my photos from the camera to my computer. I just want to do something so it's not taking hours to upload photos to print.

It's always been the part of the process that frustrates me the most. I LOVE getting my photos in the mail, but it takes so long to pick them out!

yup - tried to upload photos from our Hawaii trip ... over 1,000 photos (okay seriously, who the heck takes over 1,000 photos? well, apparently I did between the phone (which had over 500) and my camera. ugh.
I need to edit, but going thru each one on their site is gonna make me loopy.
Oh and kicker was that it quit with 57 photos to go ... so now I have to figure out what 57 were left out. And I haven't touched it in over a week because I look at the laptop and realize I'm too tired to deal with it!

The sad part is I had (most) of the photos picked out before I started. I had them in "starred photos" and I just dragged it over to Costco's page but it is just such a long process. Also sometime it seems like pictures I didn't want to print sneak into my albums and I have to go through and delete them. That might be user error...
I'm not sure how I would go about picking the sizes before I uploaded anything. Like I wanted some in 5 by 7's and they have the 5 by 5 option now. I can't pre-decide on those until the pictures are uploaded... can I?
I am going to have to figure a new system out because the time it takes really turns me off from wanting to take photos. "If I take that photo I'll have to get it printed, do I really want to take the picture?" Which is not a good thing to be thinking while the kids are doing something cute!

Ouch. I use iPhoto, so I copy all photos to a new iPhoto album titled something like "2013 photos to scrap". I then go one by one, removing the photos from the album as needed, and doing any (minor) editing. Once I've gone through the year, I upload them to Walgreens. I mostly scrap 4x6, so I don't worry about smaller sizes. If I decide later that I want to scrap a smaller size, I print that on my Selphy. I stopped doing collages a couple of years ago because they took too much time.

I did that on my England trip last year! I ALWAYS overtake photos like that. And while I still intend to scrapbook some of my memorabilia and photos so I can add journaling with them, one of the first things I did was make myself a book with Shutterfly. I waited until it was 50% off and it still cost me about $150, but it was so much cheaper than getting my 1,000+ photos printed and the materials to scrapbook them.
