And she's on the other side of the world. She's spending her junior year of college in Zhuhai, Guandong, China. She's getting two degrees and she wants to minor in Mandarin, so she decided to spend the year there. She's coming home next month for a couple of weeks, but I really want to see her today! To make matters even worse, she has finals coming up and she doesn't even have time to chat. Waaaaahhhhh! May I share some photos from her recent trip to Beijing? She went to the Forbidden City and to the Great Wall. I'm so excited she is getting to see these wonderful places This Fisher Girl is the symbol of the city of Zhuhai, where she's going to school. This is her and a friend at the Forbidden City Here she is on the Great Wall. She was freezing the whole trip! Zhuhai is across the river from Hong Kong, so it's always pretty warm there. Beijing had gotten some snow just before she got there. It was a good thing, too, because it helped calm down the pollution. She left Sunday, just as the pollution got so bad they thought it was going to set a new record. Thanks for letting me share. I really miss her. Marcy

Happy Birthday to your DD! I'm sorry your girl is so far away, on this special day. Just remember it's not the date that matters, but celebrating with the person you love. I hope you have an amazing birthday celebration, when you get to see her next month. TFS the pictures! You must be so incredibly proud of her.

Thank you, ladies. It has been a weepy kinda day for me. I'm so proud of her but I want her home so bad. Lol
I spoke with her earlier and she said some of her friends brought a cake and they had tea and cake during a study break. She's going with a group to Hong Kong this weekend and they're planning on celebrating her birthday then, too. She sounded good.
In 2009, I took her and a group of other kayakers to Romania to train at a live in kayak club/school. My DD was not in anyway shape or form the fastest kayaker in the group, but she was the one the Romanian coach and school director asked to stay. when he asked me if I would consider leaving her there for the rest of the summer, he told me that she might not be fast, but she had good sense, was willing to learn, and she knew how to show respect. I couldn't let her stay at that time, but she and I both appreciated the honor he had shown her just by asking. He posted on her Facebook page that he wished her a happy birthday and he hoped China recognized how lucky it was to have her there for a year. DD was so honored and touched. It was just such a nice thing to do.
Can you tell how proud I am of her?
