On Black Friday, I made an online purchase at Rue21. My kids like a lot of the clothes and accessories so I took advantage of the sale and spent around $50 on various items. When checking out, I used the Paypal option, as I did with many other stores that day. A couple of days later, I still hadn't received notification that my order had been received, yet I had an email from Paypal saying that I had an authorization from Rue21. I sent an email to Rue21 asking the status of my order. Today I called Customer Service. It was annoying enough that I waited about 20 mins to get on the phone with someone only to be told that their systems were down and if I wanted help, I'd need to call back in an hour. So I waited and called back. I was told that it was probably an authorization hold. I asked what that meant and the c/s lady couldn't tell me. I told her that I'd ordered from quite a few places on the same day and no other company had any trouble getting my order and that I'd used the Paypal option through every site that had it available. She said she was sorry but there was nothing she could do...but that I could feel free to place a reorder today through the website. I explained that I'd ordered on Black Friday for a reason and that the prices were no longer the same. Her response? "That's unfortunate." WTF? And that there was nothing she could do about honoring the prices. I'm SO annoyed right now. Will my kids be hugely disappointed without the things I ordered? No. But it's the whole crappy ass customer service. I would've been happy with a 20% off coupon code, even though that wouldn't have even come close to the discounts that I'd gotten on my original order. But NOTHING was offered. I won't ever shop at their store again. Have you ever had anything happen like that when paying with Paypal? I've been using the Paypal option for checkout since it became available. And more and more stores are making it available. But I've never had anything like that happen before. UPDATE: Sooooo, I contacted Paypal and they assured me it wasn't their issue. It clearly states on their site "Authorization TO Rue21". After I'd sent a pretty nasty email to Rue21 saying how awful their customer service was and how I'd never shop from their stores or online again, I got an email back with an order number. So my order is in processing. I also contacted Aero because they had a pending charge as well via Paypal. Their c/s was amazing and said that my order should be shipped today and sorry for the delay. It was due simply to the number of orders received.

I always get the worst customer service at Rue21.
I hate that they display clothes all the way to the ceiling and then act like you're a PITA when you can't reach something. Don't hang it from the rafters if you don't want to help customers get it down.

But to your question, the problem I have with using PayPal at stores is that if I want to return an item in the physical store I have huge problems getting a refund if I paid PayPal. I have run into multiple stores that will only give you store credit if you pay with PayPal.

I've never had a problem with Paypal.
That was pretty lousy service.

Yikes! I've had nothing but good luck with Paypal ... granted I mostly use it for my various "Refugee Pools" I would hazard a guess that Paypal has nothing to do with your problem and that it is the store itself that screwed up Obviously they also don't know how to properly train their customer service reps because you got a crappy response I wouldn't be shopping there again ...

Can you go up the ladder--you have the email from Paypay showing that you ordered the day you said you did. The store really needs to suck it up and put your order through

Did the system timeout or anything when you tried to complete the order? It sounds like it is more a problem with the rue21 website than paypal. Paypal authorized the transaction, but then something broke down after that.

I saw more than one company say to not use PP checkout on Black Friday. I think the way it authorizes payments can be funky. Next time I'd use a PP debit card so it still comes out of PP but it's also the same as using a card.

That sucks! I would be calling again, and going up the chain, until I was satisfied with their resolution.

I ordered a one time download of Microsoft Office and paid with paypal. It says order did not go through but it won't let me order it again because it was a one time use code. So one page says I already purchased it and one says order not processed due to payment. I called and got someone who couldn't help me at all except to tell me to wait 24 hours and reorder - I waited 2 days and same message. Very frustrating and I'm out the purchase of the Microsoft office.

I had a similar experience with Roku last Black Friday. Their customer service was so horrid that I cancelled my order and will never buy from them.

I had something similar happen recently. I ordered some stuff from Elf Cosmetics when they had the 50% off. I paid via PayPal and received a PayPal confirmation, but I didn't notice that I didn't get a confirmation from the website. Last week, the money was taken out of my checking account then almost immediately refunded to my checking account. I've reached out, but customer service seems a bit slow.

I am having a similar issue with an order I placed with Joann's last Wednesday. Paypal immediately authorized the transaction and still shows a pending status: "This is a temporary authorization to make sure your payment method will cover the payment. Your payment method will be charged when Jo-Ann Stores, LLC completes your order." I have yet to receive a confirmation or any communication with Joann's. Very frustrating. I haven't bothered to call Joann's CS because I know it will frustrate me more.
