How long did you feel lethargic, and maybe even moody? I seem to be low on energy. I'm not super moody, not snappy or grumpy, just kind of...blah. I am finishing up day 9 today. I was down to 1-2 cans of D Coke a day during the week, but drank mostly D Coke on the weekends with very little water. I am now D Coke free and drink mostly water with MAYBE 1-2 glasses of tea every couple of days. If you experienced either of these symptoms, how long did they last? What did you do to help up your mood/lethargy? Thanks!

This is probably not the answer you are looking for, but I upped my coffee intake. I definitely felt lethargic and a cup of coffee in the early afternoon gets me over the hump. I don't have it every day, maybe once every three days I feel like I need an extra "push". I don't feel that it has gone away completely, but I think it could be tied to my overall sugar/food intake in general. My hope is once I get rid of sugar completely, I'll finally start to feel better and have more energy.

I've not had those symptoms but would get a headache from lack of caffeine. I've done better without soda since I let myself have one occasionally.
Hope you feel better soon.

Luckily, I have only had 2 very, very mild headaches, which I usually get when I miss one day, so I am thankful for that for sure!

My soda ban came on unexpectedly. A couple years ago I had a nasty cold/virus and was laid up in bed. As I was recovering, I realized I'd had nothing but juice and water to drink for the past two weeks. I figured if I had a caffeine addiction (likely!) I was probably over it by that point. That's when I stopped (though I've had some here and there....and am trying to give it up in its entirety now).
As for the energy, there are days where I feel I still want a diet Coke pick-me-up. I gave in last week. GRRRR. But it doesn't give me energy...just a headache the day after. I wish I had an answer for you.

My soda ban came on unexpectantly. .
Mine was unexpected as well. I always said that I would never give up my DC. It was my vice! But, I had started cutting back to no more than 1-2 a day, except for on weekends. On weekends, that was practically all I drank. Last Monday, I told myself I REALLY needed to pick up my water intake. I could not have a DC until I had had at LEAST 1 glass of water. SO, I started with water and told myself I could have my DC for lunch. When lunch rolled around, I refilled my empty water glass with more water and TOTALLY forgot I was going to have a DC. SO, I just drank water the rest of the day. On Tuesday, I decided to see if I could make it all day without one and not have a headache. I did not get a headache, so I just kept going and here I am on day 9! Something I NEVER thought I would do.

I haven't had any soda in 12 years. I gave it up for my birthday one year and thought I would see how long I could go. I loved having a can of coke in the afternoon. Sometimes I like to smell the sodas that my family still drinks, just feel the bubbly by my nose. I know crazy but I never give in. I started drinking lots of water and it probably took 3-4 weeks before the headaches totally dissipated. I definitely felt better after that and better than when I was drinking my sodas. I do drink coffee and occasionally a sweet tea but on my birthday last month I decided to cut out caffeine after noon entirely. I have cheated a few times when I just felt I was dragging. Overall, I am so glad that I cut out the soda and wasted calories and all that sugar. I hope you start to feel better soon. It does improve!

I don't drink coffee either. I took an occasional Excedrin when I got a headache (which also coincided with the lethargic feeling.)

Good for you! You'll ultimately feel better once you've gotten used to it. Make sure you're drinking enough to stay hydrated which will help with lethargy and headaches. Make your water fun - add various fruits to infuse, drink water with a squeeze of lemon or a little splash of juice.
I haven't had soda in at least 20 years except for natural ginger ale when I was sick and couldn't keep anything down. The last time I took a sip of a coke or pepsi, all I tasted were the artificial ingredients. Not pleasant!
I do have a soda stream and make seltzer with lemon or lime which I love, and I drink a ton of water and herbal iced tea.

I was going to suggest drinking sparkling water too, and be sure you are drinking a lot. I know when I start feeling tired and headaches it is typically because I haven't been drinking my water. I haven't had soda for a few years, and sometimes it just looks so good I try a sip and I can't even stomach one sip. It was hard at first, but it got easier every day.

Are you drinking a lot of water? What I learned was that a glass of water perked me right up and that I was probably living life in a state of mild dehydration. If I get an afternoon slump now I just have a glass of water and feel a million times better.

Just to clear this question up since so many of you have mentioned it, yes, I am drinking PLENTY of water. Lots and LOTS of water. Still lethargic. That is pretty much my only issue. No headaches, no major mood swings, no cravings for a soda at all and no problems drinking LOTS of water. All I need now is to find out how to feel more awake...the natural way. Not a coffee drinker and will not drink any energy drinks.

Kisha -- first off GOOD FOR YOU! I'm right with you -- LOVE diet coke but know it's not the best for me. I've also upped my water intake and aside from wearing a path to the ladies' room it is great.
Does tea help perk you up at all? Maybe a glass of tea per day would help?

Seriously, one of my biggest problems with not drinking pop is being embarrassed when I order water in a restaurant. I always feel like they think I'm too cheap to pay $2 for a glass of pop, but I only drink water and coffee.
I watched a Youtube video where some doctor said most patients could be cured of diseases if they just drank more water. Interesting!

Another one who quit unexpectedly. I was diagnosed with GERD last year and soda is on the tough-on-the-stomach list. But, I also mostly drank caffeine free soda with one caffeinated soda in the morning. Even so, I have needed to increase the amount of sleep I get by a little bit.
Good for you on giving up the soda. It will get to where you won't even think about it anymore (says the woman who loves soda more than chocolate)

I may need to add more, at least untill this passes.

I gave it up because of caffeine and because I had IBS and it is a NO-NO! I never really missed it and if I do have a sip of something I think it is too sweet. We don't have soda in the house and my kids only drink it when we are at a restaurant. I never worry about just ordering water. Most people I know just get water.

Here's what I think: if you don't want the tiredness, you have to get off sugar completely. I tried to quit Coke for more years than I care to admit to. I would have a 3-day caffiene headache and about a week of lethargy. What I never would get over is the afternoon crash - that is often what made me fail at quitting. I think it is because I was still eating sugar. Once I quit sugar (and stopped having between meal snacks), I would say it took two weeks before I stopped feeling tired. I actually got more energetic after that mark.

Not trying to derail things, but I am kind of relieved to hear this. I was beginning to think I'm the only one with headaches this far in. Yesterday, I almost gave in just so I could make the headache stop
