I would not vote to repeal the amendment. I don't think the amendment is the problem. I think it's the damn fools that interpret the amendment to mean every single person has the right to own every type of weapon, no questions asked.

I really don't know.
My single biggest issue with any meaningful gun reform is that "they're already out there!" Let's imagine the extreme, where all guns are now banned in the US. Most "good guys" would turn theirs in, but the "bad guys" obviously wouldn't. I don't see that ever happening, but even so...we make them harder to get or better background checks or whatever - I still think the "bad guys" will be able to get their hands on whatever they want. Laws only truly deter the good citizens from making mistakes. The bad citizens don't care.

Again, this has nothing to do with the admendment. I mean hello our gang members get illegal guns all the time.
Do you honestly believe a criminal or crazy person is going to follow stricter laws? Please...

No. I don't think the answer is as simple as "removing" guns. The problem goes much deeper than the tools used. I believe that "removing all the guns" would be a knee jerk reaction that would not have the effect many would want of such a move.

It will never happen but I wish we could repeal the Second Amendment.

I wouldn't get a vote but, no, hypothetically I wouldn't vote to repeal the amendment. It needs a huge overhaul but not a repeal.

Obviously people realize you can't get rid of everything that could kill. However, guns make it very easy to kill 10 plus people. For the record, I'm not against guns, but I am against everyone having them no hold barred. We also need to look at the type of weapons. I have to wonder what our forefathers would have written if they had weapons like we do now. |

I wouldn't vote to repeal, but I would certainly be behind amending it to reflect today's society rather than over 200 years ago when our forefather's couldn't have possibly imagined the mentality of today's society.

I have no problem with the Amendment. If they would screen people more carefully before giving out guns, we'd be a lot better off. (And I just was reading that although mass shootings are up, gun violence in general is way down.)

I think that standard made sense when the US population was 4 million people, with a little military and a baby government (time of Constitution). Shoot at the National Guard or my city police officers today, for any reason? I don't think so, I can't imagine any scenario where that would be my course of action.

When I think about scenarios I would have never imagined I always think of 9-11. I could have never imagined that happening and then I realize there are things out there that can happen that I could just never comprehend or come up with. |

I do not think the second amendment reflects today's culture, so I believe it should be revisited and probably revised.
I am going with Emerson on this one:
I don't think "knee jerk" get-rid-of-em-all reactions are beneficial, but I do not think a fetishized obsession with the second amendment is healthy either.

No. I've never need a weapon but if it comes down to it, legal or not if someone walks through my front door with intent to harm my family and they get through the guard dogs I will shoot them directly between the eyes.

I hear this argument all the time but I think people need to consider what laws are for Laws shouldn't necessarily be set to deter criminal behavior We have laws about marriage, building and food but there aren't written FOR criminals they are written to protect the general public and that is what gun laws should be for you deal with criminals with criminal law but you certainly can run them under general gun laws first to see what shakes from the tree It may not deter ALL criminals from getting guns but it may deter 3% who are people who are bordering on criminal behavior because often criminal behavior is not entirely black and white |

I would like to see all automatic and semi-automatic weapons banned. I would like to see all high-capacity ammunition clips banned. I would like to see all ammunition that is designed to pierce protective vests or even go through walls banned...
I don't think that's unreasonable…

www.gunviolencearchive.org/There have been 12,000 gun related deaths in 2015. Too many to be sure. These include mass shooting, accidents, police incidents, etc. All deaths attributed to guns. There are 320,000,000 Americans. So telling me that I have a 1 in 300 chance of being shot is not true. And again, 12,000 people is a shocking number but you have to consider the population base. Norway had 88 gun deaths this year. Norway has a population of 5,000,000. Almost the same rate of gun deaths per capita when considering the population. Got a source for that? Either way, you might want to review your maths - that is still less than half the per capita gun death rate than the US. |
