I'm reading Tricky Twenty-two right now so no spoilers please.
DH says I'm always smiling as I read these books and he doesn't understand. Ha! He always wants to know why but how can you explain Grandma or Lula or some of the crazy names Janet Evanovich comes up with. Gobbles, Julie Ruley. Makes me smile....

I read up to like 10 or 12. For me, the series had just deteriorated so much that I stopped. Glad you're enjoying them.

I got tired of them a couple of books ago but this one is good. I can't wait to see what happens. I wonder when the series will stop?

I haven't enjoyed them since about 12 or 13 and I don't think I've read past 17. Too formulaic, characters that never change, mature, or learn anything. No thanks!

I got a kindle advance freebie of this current book and actually enjoyed it. Sure they are formulaic and silly and of no redeeming value, but they make me laugh. I had a new appreciation for the mom in this book.

I can't wait to start reading mine! I'm saving it for Christmas break. Me too. I'm hoarding the book. I usually read them straight through in about 24 hours. And then it's over. I'm enjoying the anticipation and have been tempted, but I know I'm busy the next couple of weeks and just want to enjoy the book! They are fluff and vacation reads for me. No thought needs to go into keeping the characters straight or watching out for clues. They always make me laugh and that's enough for me some days.

I just finished the latest one. I only read the Stephanie Plum series by her - I haven't gotten into the Diesel stuff. They are light and fluffy, which is really what I want out of a book. I think all day - I like to read things that don't make me think.
And, I need a new series along these lines. Any recommendations?

I am but the lame-o movie Katherine Heigle made based on this series kinda killed my passion for the series.

There's a funny series by Lisa Lutz about a kooky family of private investigators in San Francisco. The first is "The Spellman Files". I laughed so hard while I was reading that book. The main character's little sister is along the lines of Grandma.

Sometimes reading should be just downright fun. I'm glad you're enjoying your book!

At least with this last one, I get the feeling that Stephanie is finally moving in a permanent relationship. I've become a bit weary of the IS IT JOE? or IS IT RANGER? situation. It seems as though she's finally settling into a "Joe is the one" frame of mind.

I love them. Love the characters. They don't have to 'grow', they are good as they are. I just finished Available Dark by Elizabeth Hand and I'd take a Stephanie Plum book over Hand's dark writing any day.

The series are eerily similar. I read somewhere that Janet Evanovich was a mentor for Sarah Strohmeyer, which totally makes sense.

I read the latest one last week and was pretty much bored silly. The only thing that kept me going to the end was that it was an audiobook (library version, I didn't pay for it) and I was painting some furniture, so I needed something I didn't have to give my full attention to. It really irks me that she spends a good third of the book filling in the "back story" that we've all read 22 times by now. Every.single.book she talks about Morelli's house, how he inherited it from his Aunt Rose and the curtains upstairs. She describes how Ranger only wears black and that he uses nice shower gel etc etc etc. Every freaking time 1/3 of the book is the same word for word.
I don't think you can even call then a "fluff' read anymore, it's now just the same book with [insert name of person killed] [insert method of killing] and [insert crazy animal scene] and [insert name of murderer & method of capture]. The end.

The only thing that kept me going was the Joe/Ranger question and then I really started to wonder why Joe was sticking around. I really did love the first few books - complete laugh out loud fluff.

I always laugh out loud and have to explain to dh. 22 was good, I thought.
I agree, she could cut down on the backstory.

I've have 21 about half read from last year, really lost interest. If I get around to ever finishing that, I'll start 22.

I couldn't get past the first 2 chapters of the first book - it's the only time I haven't been able to finish a book. I can't even remember now why I didn;t like it. I think it was the style of writing. Maybe I'll give it another go one day.

I have some bad news for you then, I actually thought 21 was the best of about the last ten books including 22. If you couldn't finish that one, then I'm afraid there's very little hope for you going forward

The end. I haven't read the newest book. I've been keeping up, though I don't know why. I agree with pjaye's post. These books just aren't what they used to be. The first 5 books are so were just so much fun, and seemed to have more storyline. Less formulaic overall. I hate to say it, but Janet Evanovich should have quit while she was ahead. I know I'll end up reading this one. I think I read 1 or 2 of the Lizzy and Diesel books, and I was just not impressed. The characters are exactly the same as in the Stephanie series. There's nothing new there.

That said, I would suggest you read the vI Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky. Love them.

I stopped several books ago but can't remember which one I stopped at. I would like to read the newest one because it's easy and funny.

I've stalled on book ten, the Peas got me started as beach reads. Your post makes me want to pick them up again, thank you!
The holiday books are cute side trips, if anyone needs a diversion.
