In my transition to a whole food plant based diet, I am realizing that my 'snacks' and ways of making things taste good will have to change. I'd like to purchase a food dehydrator to dry fruits and vegetables and herbs to have on hand for adding flavor. I have a friend who made me some yummy spices by dehydrating onions, garlic and some kind of peppers. Just last week I bought a bundle of fresh dill and ended up throwing most of it away but I'd like to get into the habit of drying it and storing it for future use. Things like that.
If you have one, would you please tell me what features to be on the lookout for? I had one many many years ago but I know that the grates were too big to allow for drying small pieces, such as the spice mixture listed above.
I've looked at Amazon, where I will very likely buy it from, and there are just a lot of options. If you care to, feel free to recommend a particular brand and/or model number.
Thanks for always being so helpful.

I bought this one last summer: Presto dehydratorI like it. The trays stack pretty flat, it's easy to clean, and it has a couple settings. I've only used the fruit/vegetable one. It was also $10 cheaper when I bought it a few months ago. I've made dried apples and plums for snacks, dried cherry tomatoes with a little olive oil and seasoning, dried radish slices (use as a salad topping), and lots and lots of dried sweet potatoes for dog treats. Everything I've tried has been successful. I've used it about once a week since I got it. It's easy. I do have to move it to another room because the noise bugs me, but it's fine if I do that.

We hAve a Presto one as well, but it is square shaped. We love it, my husband got sheets you put in it for fruit roll ups which we use when drying herbs. My very favorite thing with it is zucchini chips. Just zucchini and a bit of garlic powder and salt, just remember to use light hand when seasoning as they concentrate when drying. So yum!
