I cannot resist!
I had a little tear appear from no where when Stephanie Mills began to sing as Auntie Em. I so adored her in the original movie version of The Wiz.
And glad they went back to the theatrical production for this. While I'd prefer to see theater in person, I am also happy to sit home, under my blanket and watch.

Awww, the kids always love when they do these live productions, and my son is a huge MJ fan. (Obviously I know he isn't in this one, lol!) Well, we'll set up the recorder and get most of it!

I'm loving the costumes! Are there no commercials?

I'm loving the costumes! Are there no commercials? Plenty of them here (which I'm much more tolerant of with a live production vs a taped show!). Maybe you got lucky with when you tuned in?

I'm not currently watching, but I've seen a couple of Tweets of people freaking out because they've just realized the cast is all black, and that must be some form of racism. That kind of stupid really should hurt . Amazing cast though, I hope they do well and it gets good reviews.

It's a mix.
The 19 yo actress playing Dorothy is wonderful.
I like the idea behind the choreography in each scene but the actual choreography is too simplistic. Dd explained it as being appropriate for a high school performance but executed by professionals.
I was excited that they went back to the theatrical production instead of the movie, but they've made cuts that I wish they had kept... no dancers playing the road, but then again the choreographer, who has very nice credits, seemed to be a little under unspired, at least so far. <sigh>

When I was watching the scene when they arrived to the wizard and laughed and thought they found a scene to throw some white people in! lol

It's horrible. And I'm a WOO fan...my son was in the local community theatre production and I worked behind the scenes.

It could have been fabulous! The original was so ground breaking. An updated version should have been across the board theatrical, hip and exciting. The choreography is universally underwhelming. This is truly high school choreography which is sad because these are professionals who can dance! I keep wondering if it the camera angles or what, but there is a sense of excitement that is just not translating here. I want to love this. I love everything. I just like this and part of that is because I've been able to peel my eyes away and do other things and not pay attention.

OK.. it was worth watching until the end. Some of the best numbers were towards the end of the show!

I liked it! Love the green costumes. I missed the beginning because of a misunderstanding about timing. Loved the Lion and the Tin Man!

My kids liked the behind the scenes/outtakes that followed the show better than the show.

These are filmed in Grumman Studios which is quite literally, 2 minutes from my house. In fact, I can see the top of the studio from my front window.

I taped it to watch this weekend! My DD watched it last night and loved it. Said it was much more fluid on TV than Sound of Music or Peter Pan was.

I didn't watch the whole thing because I thought it was really bad. Common was terrible, seemed nervous
the big number at the end..the lady from Orange is the New Black, her voice really faltered a few times. I know it's live, I know they were nervous, but yeah. Wasn't impressed.
I don't know why they keep trying to put on these live Broadway productions without actual real Broadway actors. Its just too big a challenge.
Sound of Music was the same way, poor Carrie Underwood..and what was the other live show they did?

It was different. That alone was worth my attention. Until I got an alert on my phone about the Thursday Night Football game and I ... uh switched over to that.
Cause hail Mary shots from Aaron Rodgers is too good to miss, too.
