What type of tree do you have? I love all of the really pretty theme trees I keep seeing on Pinterest. We have so many sentimental ornaments though. My family would have fit if they didn't make it on the tree. Maybe I need to do 2 trees this year.

I do two trees for that very reason. We have a safari-theme tree in the living room (artificial tree) that was a surprise for my husband one Christmas. And a vintage tree (real) in our family room with all the sentimental ornaments including many from my parents and grandparents.

We have 2 trees, actually we have 4 if you count the two small ones in the boys rooms. We don't do theme trees all of them are ornaments we have collected over the years. I do like some theme trees that I see but it wouldn't be Christmas without my angel ornaments or the ornaments the kids got when they were little or my moms ornaments even the weird ones she picked out or the old ones from my grandparents house.

We have a big tree in the great room and smaller trees in other spots. The smaller trees just have lights or are in the kids rooms. The big tree is decorated with all our sentimental ornaments. It has everything from preschool craft projects to pretty Lenox ornaments. I have 1 ornament that my mom gave to all us kids in 1967, it's ugly, but I love it I've always liked themed trees, too, though. So, this year I bought 3 alpine trees, set them up in the morning room. I'm decorating them with brightly colored glass ornaments and garland. It coordinates with the decor in that room.

I love themed trees. I have been doing my Santa tree for years. With a year here and there that has been other themes. I gave my box of family special ornaments to my daughter. So that she can start her own tree traditions.
I have been collecting Santas since I was a kid.
This year we will be having 3 trees.
1. Our 7 ft skinning tree. will be the main tree in the living room with all my Santas on it. 2. my little 3 ft tree (was my moms) will be in the dining room with all my husbands golf ornaments on it. I thought it would be perfect there since the dining room is now the golf room. 3. the 32 inch tree my daughter gave me will be standing tall on the top of our wall with my santa that holds the candle.
The 7 ft tree is prelit and the small trees are fiber optic.

I will try to come back and post a picture but I have a large, old artificial green tree that is loaded down with eclectic ornaments. There are no plain balls or anything that doesn't have meaning or was a gift or made by my kids or gotten on travels, etc.
I have 2 strands of mini color lights, 2 strands of larger C-7 colored lights and 3 strands of bubble lights.
I have a variety of garland, 3 boxes of old fashioned lead tinsel and candy canes. There is a Moravian star on top.
It is the tree of my childhood on overload.
I also collect antique and vintage ornaments and so far I have no plans to display any of them this year. In past years I have done a display at a local museum. I have a 4 foot wire tree, no greenery, I hang a selection on it for me to enjoy. I may decide to do that when my cards are done and gifts wrapped.

We put up two trees: The dd's green tree which has multi-coloured lights and the random ornaments collected through the years ... the dd's decorate it how ever they want to and I don't say a word My white tree that has blue lights and is covered in blue, white and silver ornaments ... it is perfect because I'm OCD about my tree

Same here (except we have one less tree than you). While theme trees can be beautiful and impressive, I agree it won't be jul without the ornaments I have inherited from my grandparents, the ones I bought when the kids were younger, the ones from my own childhood or the ones I made together with the kids. For me, the memories are more important than the "perfect" tree.

One real tree in our living room. No theme at all. My husband and I started a tradition of going to the Hotel Del Coronado every December to see the tree and purchase an ornament we liked the year we got engaged. They change their theme every year so there really is no rhyme or reason to our ornaments, it is just stuff we like! The best part is finding the very first one we bought together and remembering our excitement to start a real holiday tradition in our new little family.

We have one real tree with a transportation theme that has broadened over the years to include gift ornaments and of course, the ones DS made in grade school. Neither DH nor I came into the marriage with anything so once we discovered DS was nuts about all kinds of transportation, I bought any ornament I could find with that theme. I buy him an ornament every year--this year's is a robot in a flying saucer.

One tree, no real theme.....the 'kids' (adults now) still look for the Littlest Angel - now missing wings - and other special baubles every year. Christmas wouldn't be the same without those somewhere on the tree.

My kids get to pick out an ornament each year and we also buy ornaments on every vacation, when the kids start a new sport or activity, when something big happens to one of us, etc. So each ornament has a story. Our tree is covered in them. No rhyme or reason to it. I used to fill in between with glass balls but for the first time this year didn't put up any glass balls because there's no room. I think we will soon need a second tree.

I'm a bit of a minimalist so our real tree will probably quite understated and will be decorated with silver and white. I buy a few more every year to add to the mix as I love the delicate baubles. There won't be much else on it other than baubles and lights.

Our main tree is in transition. The kids get a new ornament every year and with four kids it pretty much looked like a Hallmark commercial. However, both DDs have moved out and I gave them their ornaments to start their own traditions so my tree was VERY lean this year. I filled in with lots and lots of different sized red balls, some pretty white glittery snowflakes and large sequin/glitter candy canes. I think I'll keep moving in the red/white direction with that tree. The red/white seems to blend well with what's left of the boys Hallmark ornaments and the handmade kids ornaments that I put on there. Each of the kids also has a small tree for their rooms and they can decorate it however they want. Currently youngest DS is the only one who has his up and it's a Star Wars theme on a black tree.

For many years, I had a theme tree each year. Each year I would put extra effort into making sure my tree was just so. When we lost our house to foreclosure in 2009, I was forced to basically sell off all my Christmas gear except those ornaments which were special to us. Ornaments that all those years, never made it to the tree. Now, I exclusively decorate with those ornaments and I have found that it is far better. Each year, the kids ask me for the story behind the ornaments. I have let them lead since then. They want multi-colored lights, we do multi-colored lights. They want that stringy tinsel, we do the stringy tinsel. They love candy canes on the tree and love eating them all December long, so we put candy canes on the tree. We have a real tree and this year, it is nearly as fat as it is tall. It is a giant mess of a tree, but the kids couldn't be prouder of it. And now, I actually feel bad about all those years when I felt like I had to have the perfect tree.

I put up one tree every year. However now and again I like to switch up to see you. One year it was all candy and sweets, another year it was purple and gold and very elegant. This year I went for a winter scene using pale blue's and light purple's and snowy owl as the topper
