It's a cool, crisp day here and perfect soup weather Because I can't shop, cook or eat I thought maybe we could do a 2Peas version of "Stone Soup." Please join in, tell us what you're bringing and why There can be any number of reasons why... it was cheap, I had extra, I love it, I hate it but need to use it up... whatever. It'll be a virtual potluck I know where the kitchen is here and plan to sneak off with a few carrots to start our soup with. Carrots are one of my favorite vegetables and they add just enough sweetness to heighten the savory flavor of soups and sauces. I'll peel and diced them and get them sautéing in a little butter with salt & pepper. Who's next? What are you adding to the soup pot? And what's on your home menu?

I'll bring lentils. Last night I made a lentil and black bean chili which was so damned good and now I'm craving more lentils.
As for dinner tonight, I've no clue. Dh will be home late, I have a list as long as my arm with things I have to get done tonight. It might end up being cereal for dinner.

I think we are going to take the girls to a Christmas Walk and probably go out to dinner afterwards. Wherever we have coupons for!

Chicken Tika Masala and Basmati rice. for your stone soup I'll give you the rest of the homemade bacon bits I have, no use for them, nothing on the menu to use them for and they need to go!

I'm craving a hamburger so I'll add ground beef to your soup!!
In reality it's my second party of the week tonight...my work Christmas party and its a buffet. I'm guessing it will be fair, not great, but FREE and edible.

I'm going to bring roasted red potatoes and add a little heartiness to the soup. The broth will make the potatoes sweeter and tasty.
We're probably doing leftovers. Have a great rest of your day everyone.

My son's preschool class made stone soup before Thanksgiving. He loved the wagon wheel pasta so that's what I will bring to share
I'm planning ham, egg and pepper breakfast burritos for dinner. Will also make a small fruit salad with a yogurt dressing.
ETA - I changed my mind. There's a pie crust in the fridge so I will be making a ham and swiss cheese quiche instead!

I just bought some of the best looking green beans, so I'll bring some to add to the soup. We won't add them until the end though. Mushy green beans are yucky. I wish we were having soup (I love soup), but we're having spicy shepherd's pie, steamed green beans, roasted cauliflower and carrots, fresh bread from the bakery, fresh pineapple, and oatmeal scotchies for dessert. ETA: by the number of times I used the word "fresh" you can probably guess that I went shopping today.

I will add a ham bone to your soup... now I want split pea soup with ham!!! But alas, I am headed to a potluck band banquet where I will be eating only from trusted sources - aka dishes brought by Mom's whose kitchen habits I trust or store bought items.

For the soup, I will bring red pepper flakes. For unknown reasons, I have two HUMONGOUS containers, and I only use a little bit at a time. For tonight, I'm meeting friends for dinner before the theater, so will likely have something delicious!

I'll bring some cheese for a topping. Cheese makes everything taste better. As for dinner at my house...we are having loaded baked potatoes. I'm worn out from a long week and headed out to a new Yoga class after dinner. It's called restorative yoga and I need some restoration tonight!

I have some borderline mushrooms you can have for the soup pot. If you turn down that wonderful offer, I guess I will put them in a quiche along with my borderline broccoli for my own dinner. Kid disapproves of quiche but he's going out with his dad tonight, so I'll take advantage of the opportunity to eat adult food.

I'm making stir fried red pepper, snap peas, and shrimp with cauli-rice. Kids won't eat that haha so leftover pasta for them.

We're having fish n chips tonight with a salad. I'm thinking my chips may be sweet potato fries.

I'm going to add some parsley to your soup, because it's getting too cold for survival out there if you are parsley.
For dinner were having grilled maple salmon, rice and fresh green beans.

Can I bring a loaf or two of pretzel bread to eat with the soup? I love to clean my soup bowl by sopping up all the little bits with bread!
But since it's Friday night, we're having pizza.

I will give the soup pot some tomatoes. I love tomatoes in many different soups.
But we will be eating lasagna with cheesy garlic bread. I was going to make a salad but DH said he didn't want any and I am not going to make salad for one so no salad.

The stone soup is so loaded with delicious goodness! Even though it has potatoes in it, I think I will add some homemade dumplings. Because carbs. I don't know about dinner tonight. We just ate out last night, but I have only one child here. I don't want to cook, that's for sure; it's been a really hectic week. I might let younger DS eat at Subway. When older DS gets home, I am not sure what he will do. But whatever happens, he will *not starve. Lol! For me... I am thinking maybe Thai. Lisa

Cracker Barrel! We went for dd's birthday in March. On the way out I saw a woman I had only met once or twice. I said hi and we chatted a few minutes. Not long after, she began attending our church.
A few weeks ago she approached me. She insisted on giving me $ to take the kids back to Cracker Barrel. Reflect on old memories, make some new ones or some such. I thought it would be difficult but we've had a good time.
Bonus I picked up my mother's Christmas present. They have a whole display of peacock themed things. My mom likes peacocks.
ps I love pot roast.

Hi Kathy----hope you're doing well !! Mmmm.....yummmyyyy......I'll bring some yummy homeade bread to go with our soup! Tonight I made a recipe from "epicurious" called "Our Favorite Mac and Cheese" www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/our-favorite-macaroni-and-cheese-51255890My sister-in-law made it for Thanksgiving (we weren't there), and my Dad RAVED !!! I've been wanting to make it since I saw the family piks Welllllll, it's good, but it actually isn't AS "to-die-for" as I'd hoped it would be.....but I do LOVE the panko crumb topping with garlic & parmesan !!! I'd like to try a few other new mac- n- cheeze recipes for a change; however, I think we'll end up preferring my regular recipe I've made for so many years!
