I am making a set of cards as a Christmas gift. How many of each kind do you do. I think 12 in the set.

I usually give 6 because that number of cards plus envelopes fits comfortably in glassine bags I have and use as packaging.

How are you going to package them? I have some white boxes with clear lids that hold about a dozen cards nicely, and that would allow a good assortment for all occasion cards if that's what you're planning (3 birthday, 3 thank yous and a couple each thinking of you, new baby and sympathy).
If you are going to make a little card folio from letter sized cardstock, those will hold about four cards and envelopes, or you could make it a little bigger from 12x12 to hold 6-8 cards.

Consider the age of the card set recipient. The older I get the less I need baby cards and the more I need thinking of you, sympathy and get well cards.

I do 6-8. I did just do Christmas card sets for gifts, and put ten in it. I made little boxes out of patterned paper and packaged up really cute with ribbon and stuff. The boxes are easy.
Figure out how high the amount of cards and envelopes would be stacked up, and score two adjacent sides of your paper. I used 1.5 inches . Then lay envelopes along scored edges and Mark off opposite corners. Then figure out 1.5 inches on other two side, and score them.
Then, because you scored four times, you will have four squares, one in each corner. Cut one side of each square in to the scored edge, and fold in and adhere.
If you have trouble imagining, just take apart a shirt gift box. It sho u or be similar.
