DH has asked for a beer-making kit (supplies?) for Christmas. I know nothing about beer or making it. Can anyone help me get started? I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars.

My brother received a Mr Beer kit for Christmas one year. It was very basic but the beer turned out great!

We make it from scratch with so our supplies are a glass bottle, a fermentation airlock stopper, a big pot, a large cooler, copper tubing, a funnel, and a food scale.

I bought this for my son a couple years back it was less than $50. Everything you need to start making your own beer and enough to do it I think twice or perhaps three times. If it's something you dh likes he can buy more ingredients but he will still have the vat and bottles. Beer Making Kit

DH has many supplies now, but he started with a simple kit we bought from a local supplier. If you don't have one of those available, I recommend Northern Brewer.com
They have lots of kits for beginner to advanced, and I've ordered from then many times with no problems.
