I am painting a room that will become my office/craft room. I can paint it whatever colour I want to. Usually I have an idea of what I want but this time the only thing I know is that I don't want pink for sure... and probably not purple. Beyond that... I see potential in most colours. The only thing I know for sure (other than NO PINK) is that I'm not going for bold colour, so probably something on the paler side of things (but who knows?).
So I thought I would turn to the peas for some inspiration. I'm heading out for paint chips this evening and that will definitely help. But what would you do if you were painting a room?

My craft room is painted white with a hint of apple green - it's nice and light

Mine is a mid tone green. I would probably do gray walls with color accents if I redid it.

Green could be nice. I know I'm doing all the trim in bright white, so that really doesn't narrow things down. I just think it looks crisp and clean and frames any colour nicely.

I recently painted my office Wickham Gray by Benjamin Moore. I'm happy with it. It's crisp and clean against white trim, it's light enough that the room feels bright, and it's neutral so I can easily change the look with accessories in different color schemes.
As a bonus, if I used the room for crafts, it is light enough that it doesn't cast any unexpected tones on things in here. Colors look true. Using colors that are too warm or bold will often have that problem.

Colour cast is so important! Hmmmm... gray could be nice. Though I was thinking of that colour for the bedroom and I don't want each room to be grey. But still... colour cast is so important. I think you may have made my decision that much harder!

My office is a pale pale lilac. It's very pretty. It doesn't look purpley at all. Very crisp.
I have a pretty glass plate that's a kiwi green that looks gorgeous in there.

I think you may have made my decision that much harder! I personally would go with a different color in the bedroom and use a light grey in the office/craft room. Color cast isn't nearly as big of a deal in the bedroom.

Though that said... one thing I forgot to consider is that my worksurface is going to be right in front of a huge window, so at least I'll be able to see true colour that way. But you've definitely given me something to consider.

My bedroom and craft room are both gray. They are the exact same color. I think it depends on what you put on the walls and windows how it looks. I love the gray walls, its a great neutral.

I did a bright yellow then white washed it to soften the brightness of it. I did yellow because it's a cheerful color and keeps me awake..LOL

My craft room (upstairs) is Sherwin-Williams Hearts of Palm, a pear green that serves as a neutral backdrop to the black furniture & pink/orange/white accessories. Our home office/study (downstairs) is Restoration Hardware Slate, a bold grey with brown undertones. Hope you find your ideal color!

Apple green sounds nice. Also a pale blue would be pretty. I have always liked the pale blue and dark brown combo. You would make one wall a statement wall and put a more bold color on that one and something more mellow on the other walls.
Good luck! Please post pics of what your pick!

I went to Home Depot and walked out with a whack of colour chips and already in the light of my work office compared to the store, I see many that I wouldn't have chosen. So important to pick when you're actually in the room. Also going to Lowes tonight for more chips, it will be interesting to see which shades overlap since that will probably be a good indication of which colours to go with.
So many choices.

I generally don't like "real" colors on walls. I prefer a neutral backdrop like gray, beige or white so that the walls kind of recede and the art and furniture pop.

Do you have window coverings? I would pick out some curtains with a great print, then choose a color from that. My crap room is painted an indescribable blue with a touch of green. I think it was called something-teal, but it's not really teal. It's closer to turquoise, but less blue. Anyhow, I really love the color, but I still don't have curtains.

My curtains are white with a black print... so no dice on gleaning a colour from that. But that would be the perfect idea!

So I accumulated a whack of paint chips last night. I've weeded out two-thirds of them and taped the remainder on the wall. Unfortunately, grey did not make the cut. It just didn't look right in the light of the room. So I am closer to choosing a colour... but still no front runner.
I've seriously never had this much trouble choosing a paint colour before. It's so weird.

I would recommend you also get the smallest size paint they will mix up once you decide. Paint it in one foot sized swatches in different places in the room, then keep checking it throughout the day. I didn't do that when we originally painted downstairs. The color looked great on the chip. We dove in and had the whole downstairs done in that color. Then the next day, when the sun was just right, it turned to a color much like what is in a baby diaper. It was horrible. I hated it. My ex wouldn't let me change it. From that experience, I now paint swatches all over and watch how it changes throughout the day and the shifting sun. Once a color passes that test, I know I'm going to love it.
Be sure to let us know what you ended up choosing. I want to see before and after pics!

It's so weird. Good luck finding a color. When I moved into my current house, I chose a yellow, fairly light yellow, and I wish I hadn't chosen this color because it does cast a hue onto projects. I thought what I chose was pale enough but once it was all over the 4 walls, it definitely looked brighter. One day, I will probably repaint. I think I want to make that room into my sports memorabilia room as well as my craft room. I need to search for ideas on how to do that and incorporate my favorite teams.

Mine is SW Rainwashed. I almost went with SW Sea Salt, which is very close, but a tad more green. It's very relaxing.

I think. I love the little sample pots you can get! I'm basically down to light yellows, light greens and light blue purples. You know... it's simple. Sigh.

Paint some poster board and hang that up instead. Good luck deciding!

I found the color I used -- it's called Sherwin Williams 6813 Wishful Blue; it's more of a pale pale violet. Really pretty on the walls. I have a small room with a south-facing window.
