I was thinkng that she was trying to do an Appalachian song style like Dolly Parton. Then I saw Dolly's version. I'd forgotten dolly sang it

The word screeching made me think it would be in a much higher key. Was a little surprised when it wasn't that high. However, I think the visual performance was odd.

Dolly's version was effortless and exquisite. Kristin was trying waaaay to hard.

I've heard Dolly's version before but I think Kristen is trying to sound like Dolly. I think both of them do a great job singing it.

A bit dreadful.
I voted other: too heavy on the dead bird imagery and vocal warbling.

She isn't my favorite actress and I didn't even watch the whole thing.

Horrid.
Her posture, her facial expressions, and the nasal tone all made me cringe. She usually has a sweet, clear tone so I don't know what was up with this performance.
Not really related, but I kept thinking she needed some lipstick!

never having heard the song before, by anyone - I have to say that neither appeals to me.
Kristen looked like she was about to have a seizure whilst sitting and singing....she didn't look comfortable and it was quite difficult to watch

Well, neither version is really my cup of tea. I feel that the context might make a difference with Kristen's performance, though. Was she supposed to be imitating Dolly or just singing a Dolly song? As others said, it was much less painful when I closed my eyes!

I'm going with overly dramatized, spastic, and dead behind the eyes.

I love Kristin, but her voice is very hit or miss for me. It was way more of a musical theatre performance than vocal performance and very distracting. Exactly. The minute she began singing, I thought, "Oh, that's her Broadway voice. Crap." I really dislike Kristin's Broadway voice because she oversings and tends to shrillness. Note that I do like musical theater and musical theater vocals, but not Kristin's Broadway vocals. I have liked her singing when she uses other styles, however.

Not screeching, but not hauntingly beautiful either.

I'm not fond of it, but reading this thread title makes me smirk.
