Beautiful l/os @patter. I love the idea of splatters but it never turns out great when I try it. Might try practicing a bit more!

I like to tie my effects and embellishments in with the theme of the photo or story. I'm planning on doing some spatter effects on a layout of my kids painting. Just like I used lots of yarn on one where they were all in sweaters. Or brownish smudges for the photos of them playing in the mud. My long winded way of saying that I like spatters, but for me they have to relate somehow. I don't have the creative juices to use them as a design element. It's shouldn't be so hard, but I struggle with basics like stripes and circles.

I don't think you have to be an artsy or messy scrapper to use inks and splatters. I'm pretty linear and still think splatters add something to my pages. I don't do it all the the time. But sometimes it just helps finish a page.

I like the look, but have never tried it because I tend to be pretty bad at creating something that is more random like that.

Wow! Peas, you'all rock! Wish I had asked about splatters sooner. Thanks everyone for your insight and examples. Just proves you can teach an old dog new tricks! I'm still experimenting and having fun deciding if this technique makes it to a layout:)

I've tried it a few times, but I prefer a cleaner look for my pages.

I just realized I left off one of the reasons I use splatters instead of sequins or enamel dots. I like that with the splatters I never have to worry about them falling off.

Ashley, thank you. And Lilypop, you will have to show us how your splatters turn out. Practice on a scrap piece of paper, and have fun!

I wish I can splatter beautifully. Have watched many videos of everyone doing it, but mine just doesn't look right. But I have to say I love the look. If I don't splatter, my layout seems incomplete! Strangely though, I don't splatter on my PL

Ashley and others, thank you for sharing your layouts with explanations. I am going to have to play with my mists. So far, I have only used them with swimming layouts.

Thanks for sharing the examples, everyone. It's interesting to see the different results from the same intentions.
I have tried splatters with mixed success. One was a misty splatter on top of a Copic marker pattern, and I liked it. The other was a big mess that I ended up covering over. However, the areas that peeked out from behind the embellishments looked ok. I'm going to continue working on it, because I do like the dimension that it adds.

Thank you Ladies!!! After re-reading this thread, I tried a few splatters on a monochromatic page that needed something (Ashley provided the pictures). I like it!! I did get some drops on the ribbon, but waiting for it to dry to see if I want to replace it. (The ribbon is just connected with brads.)

Thank you Ladies!!! After re-reading this thread, I tried a few splatters on a monochromatic page that needed something (Ashley provided the pictures). I like it!! I did get some drops on the ribbon, but waiting for it to dry to see if I want to replace it. (The ribbon is just connected with brads.) I've splattered after the layout is assembled and sometimes made a mess on some elements. Sometimes I leave it, as I like the unintentional mess it looks like. Often when I'm splattering I TRY to recreate the look as if someone accidentally spilled paint or ink or left a drippy coffee ring on the page. And being very messy, I am quite well acquainted with the way those messes actually look! It was a paint accident many many years ago (at least six -- which is forever in the scrapbooking world!) that started me splattering on my pages to start with. I was working on a page and had a tube of Jenni Bowlin acrylic paint -- do you remember it, it came in a squeeze tube. Anyway, I was squeezing some out onto a plate and instead something odd happened and TWO huge splats landed right on my layout that was pretty much done. I left the splats there and embraced the mess.

I really like to splatter -- it just seems to add a finishing touch to my pages. My most used splatter medium is Heidi Swapp's Color Shine in gold. I love it so, so much.

I'm also a very linear and clean scrapper but I really got inspired by some of the more artsy scrappers on 2Peas and decided to give it a try. Here are a couple of my layouts. It was so fun! On the first layout, I smudged a couple of the drips, so the three epoxy stickers are strategically placed to cover that oopsie...

annchristine - TFS! I have a washi LO sitting on my scrap table waiting for the finishing touches. You have inspired me to add some splatter. I'm also inspired to lift that LO. It's so cute!

I like the examples that have been posted and see how they have used it to increased the cohesiveness of the layouts. I have tried it in the past, but the few times, it seems to have turned out not so good. Messy and looks like I was not paying attention.....

Thanks guys! Simple is definitely my style, in life and in scrapping Sunshinestate, I just bought some Color Shine in gold - I'd been looking for it for a while and finally it was in stock at Michael's one day when I swung by. I've been working on my DS's one year album and gold just doesn't seem to quite fit in any of my pages just yet, but as soon as I get back to doing some of my DD's pages, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be addicted too! Scrapperlady, I've been meaning to do a washi page forever too! This was one of those pages that just came together so easily - it's one of my favorites! I think splattering is one of those things that you just have to experiment with and sometimes it will work and sometimes not and then you just cover up what's not working. Ashley, I loved your pages too. I would never have thought to use black, but it's amazing! TFS

As a simple, linear, & clean scrapper, freehand "splatter/drops" intimidate me. Therefore, I use a stamp to achieve the same look without ruining my layout!
ETA: To everyone who posted examples in this thread, TFS your creative & beautiful work!

when mists first hit the scrap world I just couldn't get my head around it, going to be honest I did not like the look at all. Over the years though the look has changed and it is less about misting and more about ink splatters and dots to add visual appeal. I have been using ink on quite a few of my layouts and I really like finished look, I also use an older stamp from stampin up that gives the look of small ink splats.
