I have a 30 day trial for Amazon Prime. So far, I have placed 6 or 7 orders and always select 2 day shipping. None of my orders have come or will be coming within 2 days.
Last Friday, I followed up with Amazon on the 1st order I placed because it hadn't shown up. They apologized and credited me for the entire order and said I did not need to send the order back once I received it.
I placed an order Monday for the Prisma pencils mentioned here and they are not coming until next Monday. I just emailed to ask why the delay and the response was that when selecting 2 day shipping it will only take 2 days to ship to me, however, it may take 3 days to be packaged at their facility first....huh? What good is promising 2 day shipping if people have to wait a week to get there stuff? If the item is being sold by Amzaon and not a 3rd party, shouldn't Amazon know how long items take to be packaged AND shipped and quote that instead of just the shipping?
Is this normal? If so, good to know. I will admit I am a lifelong Seattle area resident and this is the first time I have used Amazon so much....just wondering if this is how Amazon Prime works for everyone else.

I usually get two day shipping from the business day I placed my order. But, lately it's been 3 days as often as two.

I don't seem to get everything 2 day, some items yes others can be at least 3-4 days and not all is prime shipping so that even puts a bigger damper on it but still as much as I buy I got my $99 worth in free shipping this year.

Did the things you ordered have the prime logo? Because if they don't, then the two day doesn't necessarily apply. These are usually things from third party vendors/shippers.

I usually get my orders in two days, if not one, but I have a feeling their shipping is slowed way, way down in December.
And even the USPS is having the same problem. I shipped something priority to Montana where I mail stuff frequently. Usually it tells me delivery will be in three days. This time it said four days, and it really did take four days, too.

First, you have to make sure the items have the Prime logo. As it gets closer to Chrstmas, I would imagine shipping times will be a bit longer than 2 days. Some things I ordered yesterday aren't slated to be delivered until Friday, which is three days. Just a function of being so close to Christmas.

You need to be buying items that say Prime Eligible. Amazon is right. The shipping itself will take 2 days, but processing is not included in the shipping time.

I get everything in 2 days and have been doing it for years.
That said, like the others, you have to make sure it says PRIME. Do NOT select standard shipping!!!! The best option should already be selected under Choose your Prime delivery option. If it doesn't say Prime, it is not prime. Find out why.
You may have just been very unlucky.

Usually the processing is included, but some items do say "may require additional processing time."
But the reality is that everyone, from USPS to UPS, is behind this season. I've seen a lot of news reports that shopping was down this year on Black Friday, but I'm here to tell you that everyone that I know that sells is swamped (people who sell Etsy and locally) and pretty much all of my suppliers as well as items I've ordered for gifts are delayed a day or two (or more) by the company and then even more by the delivery service.
We are lucky if we get our mail or UPS deliveries by 9 p.m. lately. I order a lot online year round and I don't ever remember companies being this backed up at Christmas before.
I've already shut down my business for the season because I'm having surgery on Monday and frankly, I'm a little bit glad for the excuse because it was like all hell breaking loose the past couple of weeks.

Sometimes it will say "in stock but may take so and so number of days before shipping." That happens a lot around the holidays and with items that are in high demand.

I am definitely selecting Prime shipping. Even double checked my orders, just now. Everything is taking at least a week to get to me. We do have the option of the Amazon lockers so i guess I could try one of those although not sure if that would speed things up very much.

I have a feeling that with the popularity of Prime, Amazon may eliminate the 2 day delivery guarantee. it will probably go to 3-4. all I know is that the couple of times I ordered and QUALIFIED for same day delivery, it wasn't same day. I never believe Amazon anymore when they say "this item qualifies for same day delivery" even when you meet all of their terms.

I think that has always been misunderstood about Prime. With your membership, you get free two-day shipping not free two-day handling + shipping. So, once Amazon drops it to UPS or whomever, it should arrive in two business days. But handling is separate and always has been as long as I have been a Prime member (5 years or so). At Christmas, handling at Amazon can get really backed up. Check to see when Amazon is placing the item in the shipper's hands. It should arrive to you within 2 days after that.
I also have serious issues with all shippers this season as well. Everyone seems to be behind schedule and running late. I bought an eBay item that the seller shipped priority on 12/1. It got stuck in Cleveland with an update last on 12/3, then nothing. I reached out to USPS and magically the package appeared on my doorstep this morning, outside of my normal USPS delivery. Amazon has been running ok with handling until they drop it into with FedEx or USPS. UPS has been ok (so far). The worst handling times so far are coming from Kohls though.

It doesn't matter if you selected Prime shipping, it will depend on whether the item is Prime eligible. I have always gotten my Prime orders in 2 days. The only time that didn't happen was when the item was listed as Prime but it also said, "this item may take an additional _____ days to ship." Selecting the Prime shipping doesn't guarantee it. You might want to head over to amazon and click on one of the orders and then click on the items and see if they have placed an additional time frame on the item. That shows before you even add it to the cart.

Make sure it has the prime logo beside it. I pretty much always get my stuff in two days by its guarantee date.

I've had some delays in recent months, too. It's typically only one day. Have you tried the video? There are some things you can't find other places.

I am in Redmond and get my items on time...it always tells me the delivery date (order in the next xxx hours/minutes" and receive it by xxx date". I can't remember when a Prime item didn't have a two day (or sooner) date and they have always been delivered by that date.

There's only been one time in my years of Prime that something didn't come when it was supposed to. When I am looking I just keep an eye on the delivery date if it's important. I just went on Amazon and clicked the first item - if I order by 8pm my time (50 minutes from now) I'll have it Friday.

I can change the shipping (I used to do this when it was a $1 credit for Kindles because you could stack them and I loved using it towards books )

99% of my orders come in 2 days from the day I order. I ordered a huge order last night and all but one thing are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. The other item is on back order.
We have an Amazon hub really close though. Maybe that's the difference?

I think it's that time of the year! Amazon Prime has never worked well for me during the holidays. I got a package today that was a day late.

I'd say you're not doing anything wrong. We go through this also every season. This season we've already had some Prime items not show up when promised, but we expect these delays around the holidays. We've been able to take advantage of the one day shipping and so far that's worked out great. It's the two day shipping with which we have to be patient.
Hope it gets better. You can always watch a Prime video while you're waiting!

I've had my Prime membership extended by three months in the past year by calling or opening up a chat support window. Prime is sold for $99 a year and what you are buying is 2-day shipping (amongst other things like Prime Instant Video, etc. if you use those services.) I am somewhat housebound and do most of my shopping from Amazon. I do pay more for some things in order to get them in 2 days. (There will often be a different option for a lower price but it will not be eligible for Prime shipping. The things I order tell me when they will be delivered, and it states two days. They do not say you will get the order two days after shipping but it might not ship out for 2 days before that. Well, sometimes that is stated and on those things I know to expect it to take longer. But when they give you a DELIVERY DATE that is two days out, they really need to make that happen. After a lovely conversation with a gal at Amazon the other day, I found out that they are severely understaffed and have just had a big hiring wave. So things should get better once these workers are trained and working. Still and all though...their staffing problems don't get them off the hook for not giving what people are paying for. They will make it right if you call and complain. Or as right as they can, I guess. Because they know that people are not going to renew their Prime membership if they are paying that $99 for the simple reason of getting two-day shipping. Prime is a product with several components. Those that are mainly concerned with the two day shipping component won't renew if they're not getting that service. Likewise, if I let my Prime expire because I don't have the money the month that it expires to renew, they aren't going to give a grace period and still keep giving you the benefits of Prime until you save up enough to renew. Hopefully, they will get their staffing issues under control. EVERY order I have ordered in the past month or so has been late. Some things it didn't really matter, a couple things it did. I'll be watching to see if they get this fixed before I shell out another $99 to renew.

I use Prime. I only select items that are Prime Eligible. And it still takes up to a week just for them to process the stuff much less ship it. Regardless of whether it is handled by Amazon or an outside vendor! And whenever I call I get some lame excuse and never get a credit for squat. The last order was a week before Black Friday for a Fire. It showed up today when it was supposed to be 2-3 day. This time it was the USPS that dropped the ball. So sometimes it's Amazon, OP, and sometimes it's whoever the carrier is. I don't order anything now that I will need within a 2 week period. It's only been this last year that it's been a problem, but it's certainly more than just a holiday thing.

A lot depends on how far from a distribution center you are. I often get items traveling from TN to AL the next day. But Amazon uses UPS and right now they (UPS) are swamped with deliveries. I ordered something about 5 minutes ago and Prime delivery would get it to me on Monday. But I opted to pay an extra amount to have it here on Friday. And if it doesn't arrive on Friday, I know Amazon will refund me my extra shipping charge. They are really easy to work with. I returned 2 phones in Oct. and was credited back a couple days after they received them. Plus UPS came with pick up slips so all I had to do was box them back up. I'll be renewing my Prime.

Amazon Prime shipping has been sucking tailpipe this year. Out of eight orders, only one has made it by the 2-day deadline. Everything else has been 3 or more. I only order products marked Prime because of shipping and return guarantees.
It's normally night like this.

My stuff just isn't arriving in 2 days??? After I posted my question here, I rec'd an email from Amazon that a tshirt I ordered DS on Monday night would be here on Friday. Originally and even earlier this afternoon, the shirt was showing it would be delivered tomorrow/Thursday. I dont have have an issue with items taking longer than 2 days to get here but not knowing when stuff will arrive is an issue.
