In our county they grade restaurants and food preparation after an unscheduled inspection an "A" for no violations and "D" for the obvious worst violations. The grades are to be posted so they are visible by all patrons. So here is the hypothetical Pea's question....if A is the best, would you go to a restaurant that is a B or even a C? Here is a chart NOTE: Priority violations are directly related to foodborne illness e.g. – Lack of adequate hand washing Priority foundation items are the building blocks which are the control for priority violations e.g.- Lack of Soap

I have and will go to a restaurant with a B rating. The next time we went it was back to an A.

The ratings aren't posted here.
However, if I knew a restaurant had a B or lower as a final grade, or anything lower than a B as a temporary one, I don't think I would go. (Here, I know the places are given 7 or 10 days or something to correct the problems and are then regraded - I always kind of figure we can all slip up, but once you've been notirfied, not to get a 99 or 100 is pretty inexcusible!)

Maybe a B....but I would look for an A first. Having done this type of business...and being a bit of a germophobic....

I ask because a pizza place that a lot of our employees at my company go to for lunch just got a suspension due to food code violations.
The very next day I'm asked to go to lunch with another employee to a mexican restaurant that many frequent. We walk in, have a good meal and as we were leaving I see the "B" on the wall. I got all creeped out because I had just heard about the pizza place getting suspended. I almost convinced myself that I was going to get food poisoning last night. But all is well. Yea!

We had the grading system in CA and I can't remember being too concerned with it unless they were less than a B. The majority of places are an A unless it's temporary.
Then we moved to WA state and they don't have the system. I wish we did.
I went to NYC recently and they have it and it brought back memories of living in CA again. The locals all said to seek out A establishments. I had wondered if food carts got graded so I looked at them and it looks like they don't but they get re-certified so I assume they check them then?
I stuck with A places and ate at a couple food carts and I didn't get sick. But most of the time it was an afterthought to look at the rating, usually on my way out, just because I'm not used to looking for them anymore.

The scores in our county are posted in the newspaper on the day of inspection and then a few days later the second/follow up inspection scores are posted. One area that I lived in had the scores posted on the door of each eatery.

Few years ago I worked in a deli that sold hot food and had a hot food bar. They always passed but I'm telling you this that place should have been and still should be shut down. I was forced (but I didn't) to put out fish that made me gag from the smell so I would toss it behind my bosses back and open a fresh pack and cook it...got in so much crap when she would find out. This place has been reported many times by many people that know what's going on ..nothing is done. I could tell you some stories that would shock you! So no the grades don't reflect if I would or wouldn't eat somewhere.

Last year I was in Oahu just before Christmas. I noticed that NONE of the restaurants had the inspection cards displayed. Wonder why that is?

I try to not eat anywhere that does not have an A (90-100) rating. I have had food poisoning before (over 30 years ago) and that is something that you never forget. I won't knowingly eat at any place that has previously failed, even if they have corrected it. The Cheesecake Factory opened here last winter and failed their inspection two months later, the re-inspection was passed but not much better. That place is officially off my list of places to ever eat at.

I've never eaten at the Cheesecake Factory and don't ever plan on it, at least not the one at MoG!

To gave to shut down here you have to have 3 Fs in a row and they are typically done in a two week tine.
I'll go to most b olaces. If they have a c, I look to see why. I worked in fast food for 8 years and some of the things they doc you for can be really mundane and picky and wouldn't bother me. Other infractions skeeve me out and even if it is a higher grade, I won't go

When I lived in California A's and B's were ok, but I would tend to stay away from anything lower. I'm now in WA and we don't have those posted outside.

Here in Orange County, it's just pass/fail. Considering how some of the places that pass smell, it's not very helpful. My son-in-law's mother used to do restaurant inspection. They won't eat anyplace that has less than an A rating. That says something right there.

They aren't for us. We never look at them. We may look at reviews, but that's it.

My hometown had a section on the news about the restaurant report cards and they made all the infractions public.
Some of the infractions were GROSS.

Absolutely not!!! My husband and I don't eat out much, I admit I am a germophobe but there is no way in hell I would go anywhere with that many violations!

We have a website that posts all of the inspection ratings. I wouldn't go someplace with a low rating or who has had one in the past. No way.
