I just got a Minc and I played with it today. I have done about four samples. Each time I turn the machine on it starts to smell funny, like melting plastic. My seven-year-old noticed it too. I have only used a setting of 3 and all of my samples came out just fine. I'm just wondering if this smell is typical and if it will eventually go away.
Also, the machine gets very, very warm on the outside (almost hot). Is this typical too?

It does give off a bit of a smell the first couple of times you use it - needs to burn something off. But mine's fine now. Mine also gets warm to the touch too, but not super hot. Mine stands on my bIkea Linnmon table and is certainly not hot enough to do any damage to the table surface.
