That looks like it works well, especially when you have a large shape and want to keep the alignment.
I normally use Scotch Removable tape in the blue package. Mike's sells it, as well as Amazon and office supply stores. It's much cheaper, but you would need to use several strips to keep the shown shape aligned.

Mine normally goes on crooked too. But, if you wanted to do a subway style title or some of the more complicated verses in the SIL store on a layout, this might work.

I use the removable tape trick but if I were doing something larger, this would be perfect. I will have to remember that.
