Sadly, closest IKEA is 3hrs away & I don't think I have time for a trip before Christmas. The Costco table is fantastic, but doesn't seem to be available. Thinking I made need to go the panel door route. Loving all your ideas! Your dd probably won't get to use the table until after Christmas anyway with everything going on --if your family is anything like mine... I agree with Birukitty--why not make her a gift certificate to open and make a day of going shopping to IKEA and getting lunch together? I loved those days with my mom and still enjoy going out shopping and getting lunch together. My mom gave gifts of a day out shopping to buy me clothes or whatever I wanted that she couldn't really choose all by herself. The office supply stores like Staples also has some great office furniture--even a line by Martha Stewart and so does Target. They have a lot of items that look very similar to what Pottery Barn carries but are much cheaper. Big Lots also has some great deals although they are hit or miss. What they do have is extremely well priced.

I have a counter height table that we purchased from a scratch and dent sale at a furniture store. It was $75 and the bar chair was $25. Best money EVER spent. It has a leaf and it's nice to have the choice to use it or not, depending on the house and the space I have. (military family) For a while, I used shelves, plastic drawers, etc under the table or just had it open. But after our last move, I set up my studio in the formal dining room, which is open to the rest of the house. So I knew I'd need to keep it tidy looking. I bought 16 Jetmaxx cubes for underneath it. Best decision ever. I have plenty of room for my stuff (well, I have the 5x5 Expedit and 2 tall bookshelves as well ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/blush.jpg.gif) ). But it all looks good out there in the open. I'll find a picture and post it. ![](http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac208/Basket1lady/55592644-0f42-4989-84bf-093a99ca183b_zps84or65gk.jpg) Basket1lady, I absolutely love your craft table and the jetmaxx cubes underneath! I hadn't seen those cubes before and can't wait to get some myself! I've been looking at different storage ideas for all my markers, paints, stamps, etc. and hadn't found anything I absolutely loved. Many of the storage containers were either difficult to find or really expensive or not very substantial for the money. Itsmemom--Check out the Jetmaxx cubes as another gift idea! I would have loved getting these as a gift--I hated not having a good place to keep my craft supplies where I could get to them easily when I was a kid. These cubes are also extremely versatile and would make organizing a closet so much easier. I know I'm going to be getting some not only for my craft area but also for dh's and my closet. We haven't found a good closet storage system that is inexpensive and versatile.

You could also check out your local Craigslist for Ikea desks. I look at mine weekly and go to furniture and then put in a search for "Ikea". While it might now be "brand new" I've found additional pieces that match my "commercial office furniture" desk that I bought way back in 2000, last year. I bought a storage cabinet that matched perfectly. The same business also offered me more desk pieces (these had to much of a used look), and two more cabinets (those looked brand new).
Ikea, though is THE place for craft tables and desks because they offer such a wonderful selection. What about a "girl's" weekend trip for you and your daughter? You could drive up (or down) on a Saturday, look around the store, spend the night in a local hotel, and then shop some more on Sunday and choose the desk and head home. Just trying to make it work for you by throwing out ideas.
