Oh, dear, I see some on this thread need to be assimilated! O.K, that's Star Trek, but I think it applies.
I'm getting antsy all ready, can not wait to see it. Have no idea how many times I've seen all the movies, but it's a lot.
It's O.K though, I don't get chick flicks or chocolate. But a good action movie (who am I kidding, I even like the bad ones), but especially a good sci-fi action movie, I'm there. I'm the weirdo who's favorite holiday movie is Die Hard. And my all time, squishy love, seen it so many times my family literally knows all the lines, The Matrix.
Any Star Wars fans see The Tonight Show last night? Fallon & The Roots did a really cool homage to the music of Star Wars with some of the cast members. Loved it.

I've seen a couple of the movies and to be honest I was so disinterested I really couldn't follow the storyline.

I'm with you, never seen a Star Wars movie and no desire to. I also don't get the hype around all the Star Wars stuff. Youngest ds requested Star Wars Legos. Holy guacamole, unless you buy the sets that are about 57 bazillion dollars, they're next to impossible to find (that will ship by Christmas). I found one $40 set, it arrived yesterday and it's one of those tiny boxes that you normally pay $25. I just don't get it.

I like the films but I don't love them and I don't understand why there had to be more. This scene however is etched on my memory forever, I watched it with a friend and we rewound that bit several time while sighing and saying 'I know'

freebird yes! Between Star Wars and never reading Harry Potter, I am pretty sure there are people who want to kill me. I'm with you on the Start Wars, but you lost me on HP, that's some awesome stuff!

I was in high school when the original Star Wars came out, obviously it was hugely popular. One of our Homecomings was Star Wars themed even. I never saw any of the 3 movies, just wasnt interested. Now, that I I have kids, though, and they have a huge interest in all things SW, I've become a fan. We have zillions of SW Lego, toys, books, etc. I've watched all,the movies with them and I'm looking forward to seeing the new one in the theater. My kids were in a little bit of disbelief that I didn't see the originals back when they first came out

I'm not the biggest fan, but I love sci fi movies and I love watching my kids get excited. My younger son is turning 14 on Saturday and Christmas is a little over a week away, but his countdown has been to the Star Wars opening. He planned his own birthday party (awesome) and it's Star Wars themed. I dare anyone to resist not getting dragged into that kind of excitement. We have tickets for tomorrow. The guy at the theater told DH when he prebought the tickets we might want to show up half an hour early or so. I laughed. Yeah, I'm not sitting in the front row. We'll be there an hour and a half early at least. I expect to be in the middle of the line but only because we live in a small town and most of the die hard fans are going to the big theaters in Boise.

I'm not a sci fi fan but I do like Star Wars. Maybe because I grew up with it? My DH has tried to get me into Star Trek and I hate it. It has been fun the last few weeks watching the movies with my kids who hadn't seen them. We are all going next week although my DH is going earlier to "preview" it for my youngest to see if she can go and, if so, if we need to shield her eyes through any of it.

I dare anyone to resist not getting dragged into that kind of excitement. Resistance is futile. That's Star Trek but it fits. I like Star Wars, don't love it. I'll see the new one but probably not on opening night. I don't have tickets and I bet they're sold out. I'll wait a week or two then see it.

I'm not a fan of Star Wars at all. My family doesn't seem to mind the franchise, but it's not for me...don't think I've seen one of them all the way through.

My husband is a huge fan. He was horrified when we met and I said I'd never seen a Star Wars movie. "It's an American classic!" So we watched the first one, and I can see why he likes it, even though I'm not at all a sci fi fan.
I hope this new movie will be as good as all the publicity has been, at best, faithful to the original while adding a 2015 freshness.

I feel like an oddball. I saw the first three back when they first came out. I haven't seen them since or the newer ones and I really have no interest.
Everyone goes on about it. Since we're not fans in our house, dd has never seen them or had interest and her friends all thought that was strange. Glad to know our family is not alone!

I just don't care. My DH has preview tickets tomorrow night- he's going with friends from church. I'd probably have gone with him if not 8.5 mo pregnant, just because it would make him happy to experience it with me. But as it is I don't have enough energy to do the things I {have} to do, let alone things I have zero interest in. Our oldest son is 8.5- he doesn't car about it. The younger one isn't quite 6 yet, so he can't see a PG13 movie until we preview it first, but he can't wait to see it. And honestly, I'm not sure where his excitement comes from, he hasn't seen any of them yet? To each his own. I will say, we were an all-girl family growing up, and neither of my parents were Star Wars crazy. I think my lack of interest stems from growing up with it on the periphery of my life. I missed the SW craze as a child, and episodes I-III were just not good. I grew up in an all girl family and my dad still took us to see return of the Jedi in the movie theater when it came out. To be honest, I've only seen star wars, the empire strikes back, and return of the Jedi. I somehow missed seeing the first of the prequels, I think because I was out of town when my geeky boyfriend went to see it and then told me it wasn't worth watching so I didn't. When i found out DH had never seen it I insisted he watch it but that was probably the last time I watched it, maybe 10 years ago. I do like the characters and story and despite the fact that he has never seen the movie or cartoons yet, ds is 3 and can recognize the logo and will ask for star wars all the time when we're at Costco near the toy display. The force is strong in this one!

I've tried to watch the movies, but I just can't get into them. At all. I can't be the only one, right? I hear you. I've never been able to get into Star Wars, either.

I have a son who, from 3-8, was completely obsessed with Star Wars - I mean like the first word out of his mouth in the morning to the last thing he said at night, was Star Wars. He knows every character and would argue that Han shot first to the death.
Yeah, I more than get Star Wars and our tickets are already purchased.
ETA - ftr, I think that the storylines were great - although the last three (first three?) movies kinda blew - but George Lucas couldn't write dialogue worth a damn. I have much higher hopes for the new trilogy.

OP you are not alone. I see from the responses here that many do indeed like / love Star Wars, and I wish to remain respectful to each of you. But, for me personally I cannot stand Star Wars, or any Sci fi for that matter * please don't disown me * My DH used to watch them from time to time (had the DVD's and all), but even he no longer watches them, and I am glad I no longer have to endure We even have sons aged 8 and 9, and GASP, they have never seen the movies either. They talk about Star Wars some, as they hear their friends at school talk about it, but there is zero Star Wars merchandise in this house and I for one and pleased at that.

She tended to be a girly girl (despite me trying hard to not let that happen), so I was surprised went she went thru her Star Wars obsession. She's 22, & we are still going as a family this weekend!! It helps that I will watch anything J.J Abrams is involved in. I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan, but the 2 he did were fantastic. Kind of worried about the one coming out this summer, without J.J involved. But I'll still be there to see it. I think Alias is the only thing of his I haven't watched. I didn't live in the U.S when it was on though. And Fringe is one of my all time favorite shows.

1, 2 & 3 (from the 90's) SUCKED. The only good part about 3 was watching him turn into Darth Vader. 4, 5, 6 (from 70's & 80's) were awesome. I'm going to see 7 but not until after Christmas.

and episodes I-III were just not good. I'm pretty sure even di-hard, Con-going fans would be in complete agreement with you on that. I read an article yesterday, that came out last January, about how Disney and JJ Abrams had chosen not to use any of George Lucas' ideas for the new movie. The comment section was hilarious - big sighs of relief mainly. No disrespect to GL and what he initially gave the world, but yeah, I-III were bad. I saw the first Star Wars when I was eight, in 1977, and have been a fan ever since. The series was a big part of my tween and teen experience as well, so maybe that nostalgia plays a part in why I love them. We're going to miss the opening weekend craziness, but will definately have our six butts planted in theater seats over the holiday break. I'm another that never got into Harry Potter, the books or movies, so I can understand not being a fan of something the rest of the world seems to love .

When I was 10, my brother, who is 14 years older than me, too me to see the first one at the theater, and my thoughts on how much I loved the movie also have to do with feeling happy that I did something so fun with my brother. We ended up going again together, with my other older brother, who is 10 years older than me. I really liked the first three, am iffy on the prequels, but will see this one eventually. I like Star Wars, but I'm not a huge fan, however.

Using the word "totes" incorrectly as you did in your thread title is highly annoying. Star Wars....Episodes 4, 5, 6 were excellent, 1,2 and 3 were completely forgettable. Sorry, stuck on the word totes....can't get past that....

I love the "first" one (IV) and the next two I'm OK with. Hated Episode I and II so much that I'm not sure I ever saw III. (Besides, I figured I could pretty much figure out what happened plotwise!) I will see the new one, but not opening day or anything. DH's company is renting out a theater on opening day, but they are all computer game designers, many of whom have also worked on Star Wars games, so those *are* the fans you're looking for, lol!

I've seen the first three movies, but not the three prequels. I really don't care for them, but my husband is a fan. (Just a regular fan, not a crazy fan.) I have no desire to see the new one, but I might go with DH just to make him happy. But we'll go after the hoopla has died down a bit. What bugs me about the first three is all the whining Luke does and all the bickering Han and Leia do. The whole thing sounds like it was written by a 14-year-old boy. I do not find any of the characters likable. I like the Star Trek world much better than the Star Wars world. ETA: My niece, who was nine at the time, was visiting us and mentioned she had never seen Star Wars, didn't know what it was about, etc. So my husband popped in the DVD. She watched the whole thing but she was decidedly NOT a fan!

My husband might divorce me if he reads this but I'm going to say it anyway: I just don't think the story is that great. I've seen all of them because he and my daughter are big fans but I just think its "okay".
I like the characters and think its fun but the storyline is just "meh" to me. They have tickets for Saturday night but I said I'd go the next time they go to see it after I'm off work for the holidays. I don't have a desire to fight the crowds so early.
