No Star Wars for me either. I don't enjoy sci-fi movies or books. Just not my bag. I thought I was the only one on earth!!

I somehow missed seeing the first of the prequels Trust me, you didn't' miss much. This SW uber fan is backing away now. I get it's not your thing, and as long as you get that it is my thing, we're all good.

I'll agree that the first three sucked but they're kind of important backstory-wise. Just not well-done. Reeeeally.

I am the only one of my family of 4 who has never seen a complete Star Wars movie. just not interested. But I should own a piece of the Star Wars franchise considering the money I have spent on their stuff over the past 2 decades.
My older son has had tickets since they first came out and he and his friends have really authentic costumes they will be wearing tomorrow night, including a $200 light saber he got for Christmas last year, and it's not even one of the good ones! Have your DS check with the theater he's going to before he takes his light saber. Many in our area are allowing costumes, but only if your face is entirely visible and no accessories or props that could be weapons, including light sabers, will be allowed into the theaters. Thank you. I told him to check so he read me the AMC policy for this movie and it said no masks that cover the face but ight sabers are allowed but must be turned off in the theatre. Would not have thought to tell him to look.

I saw the first Star Wars film - in the late 70's and STILL remember standing in that stupid line with DH and his bro and wife to watch that stupid movie. Standing in the stupid line and after we were inside thinking the girl had the STUPIDIST HAIR DO EVER. That's all I remember. Stupid line, stupid hair. Total waste of an entire evening.

I didn't even have to stand in line in 1977 to see it....I was home on leave and a friend was the manager of the local theater than was showing it and he invited me and a few other friends to view it after the theater closed the day it came out. I've seen every one of them at the theater during the original theatrical release.....39 years of Star Wars. We're not seeing it until next Monday or Tuesday night....DH and I will be in NYC and have planned to see it at a theater there....we'll miss the initial crowds.

I love Star Wars. Always have. I am actually a member of the 501st (world wide costuming club). I own storm trooper armor. I've had my tickets for the new movie since they went on sale back in Nov. To say I am excited is a understatement.
But I get that Star Wars has no interest to some people. I've never been a big fan of romance movies. To each their own.

I remember the thrill of seeing "Star Wars" for the first time. I loved episodes 4, 5, and 6. I shun 1, 2 and 3. After Jar Jar Binks, I did not watch the other 2. I have watched 3 to watch Hayden Christensen get chopped up. What horrible casting. I have tickets for tomorrow night. I hope it is good. I am so excited!

I've fallen asleep during every single one of them. Tonight my husband wanted to watch one of them and I said I am not tired enough for it.

Never have been drawn to it. I'm not much into scifi like stuff. The closest movie it watched to it was Spaceballs. I vowed to never watch a Starwars movie and have stuck to it.

I was a big nerd back in '77 - I loved Star Trek, Space 1999, Lost in Space, anything Sci fi and I was all over it. My dad took my brother and me to see it and it was the first movie I ever saw more than once in a theatre. Took my kids to see the original movies when they were re-released and when episodes 1,2,3 came out. I still laugh at how confused they were trying to explain while they were episodes 1,2,3 they were actually the 4,5,6 movies. I bought my tickets for VII way back when and we're going tomorrow night, IMAX 3D. I've worn a Star Wars t-shirt every day for the last week and I even dug out my Star Wars purse. I CANNOT wait! I actually took a vacation day this Friday because I know after I see it I will be too excited to sleep. My son is almost as excited as I am and DD is going because, while not as hard core as DH,DS, and I, she's still a nerd.

I don't even like sci-fi, but I love Star Wars. Star Wars was my childhood. I remember playing SW with my little brothers... I was Leia, my blond brother was Luke, my brown haired brother was Han. I remember my older brother coming home from Return of the Jedi and describing every scene...
It came out when I was 3 and my family was hooked. I don't remember life without Star Wars.
But seriously, the prequels make me want to slap George Lucas. We have tickets for Friday and I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'll see the new movie... eventually. I've seen the others and the whole series is somewhat iconic, so I'll see this one too.
Overall though, none of them are favorites for me. I'm not into any sci-fi including these or Star Trek. Interestingly, none of my boys are huge Star Wars fans either. They had a lot of the Star Wars' Legos, but I think that was driven more by their interest in Legos than in the Star Wars franchise.

I saw the first one in the theater when it first came out and maybe part of one or two other older ones on tv or video. I could take it or leave it. But then again I don't get half of the stuff everybody seems to get all worked up about over the years. I've been to exactly two movies in the theater in the last 15 years. I'd rather watch movies at home where I don't have to deal with annoying kids kicking the back of my seat, rude people who talk during the movie or who don't turn off their cell phones. I have zero patience for that kind of thing these days. I think I'm turning into my DH!

I'm not sure I was born when the first movie came out or I was really young. I think I've seen some of the movies here and there. I couldn't tell you much about them except Luke and Leia are twins and Darth Vader is their dad and he's evil. I think the oldest movies are quite cheesy. I'm not opposed to watching them (my daughter wants to see them) but they were never a HUGE part of my childhood I look back on. I find it confusing the way they released the movies. What do you watch first?

Blasphemers. All of you.
JUST KIDDING!!!
I was 7 when Star Wars came out, and my Dad and I went to see it in the theater. He was big into Star Trek, so sci-fi was our thing. We loved it so much, we snuck in to see it again right after!!
I always wanted the Millennium Falcon playset. My cousin had the Death Star and I was extremely envious!! I am a die-hard fan, but not crazy, KWIM? At my first baby shower, I actually received Lego versions of Yoda and R2-D2! I worked at a company that was doing a tie-in with the prequels, and we had lots of merchandise. Two of the guys that I worked for knew that I loved it, so those were there presents to me! One of my favorite gifts that day!!

So, reading all of the reasons why you guys love it, I think I just sort of slip through the gaps of fandom. I was born the same year the first one came out, and was only 5 when the third one did... Way too young to see them in the theaters, so I didn't get that amazing groundbreaking special effects theater experience so many of you talked about. I only had older sisters, and I don't recall my dad ever watching them, so we certainly didn't playact. By the time that I was old enough to be interested, they would have been 10+ years old, and they were just cheesy, outdated, lame special-effects by that time.
My first real experience with them was after I graduated high school, when my then-boyfriend and his friends decided to do a marathon and watch them. I'm pretty sure I slept through the bulk of them.
When the next three came out, I dutifully saw them, but only once. I sat down with my younger brother last night to have him fill in the gaps... While I could remember the basic storyline, I didn't remember which parts were in which movies. After it took him about an hour(!) to sum up, I realized I'm just not into it.
I love sci-fi, but I'm missing the Star Wars gene.

Never seen one, never plan on seeing one. But I totally, 1000% adore the Mel Brooks "version", Space Balls. I cannot see that movie too many time! Or any Mel Brooks movie, for that matter. Those are my kind of movies .

Oh, dear, I see some on this thread need to be assimilated! O.K, that's Star Trek, but I think it applies. I'm getting antsy all ready, can not wait to see it. Have no idea how many times I've seen all the movies, but it's a lot. It's O.K though, I don't get chick flicks or chocolate. But a good action movie (who am I kidding, I even like the bad ones), but especially a good sci-fi action movie, I'm there. I'm the weirdo who's favorite holiday movie is Die Hard. And my all time, squishy love, seen it so many times my family literally knows all the lines, The Matrix. Any Star Wars fans see The Tonight Show last night? Fallon & The Roots did a really cool homage to the music of Star Wars with some of the cast members. Loved it. I prefer action flicks. I prefer sci-fi flicks to all others. I just don't think star wars is all that great. I wonder how much of that stems from the fact that we were very poor and I didn't see a movie in a theater until I started dating at age 16. It maybe has this impact because so many fell in love as children. I also don't know how you can compare Star Wars to the Matrix. I do love the music. But I love the scores to many films.

I am excited to see it! My dh shared with me the story of when he went to see the original with his father in 1977. He remembers those words coming across the big screen as he stared in awe. He cherishes that memory with his father who has since passed away. DH has gotten leaky eyes a few times when the new SW trailer has come on.
So...on Saturday we are taking my nephews to see it in recliner leather seats and I cannot wait to see the looks on their faces as those words come across the screen!

I saw the original when it came out with my father and my brother - we were all blown away by it. It was a rarely repeated bonding experience for the three of us. So that's a memory I really treasure and I have affection for the movie even more because of that. I never saw another one of the movies but I have to admit I'm kind of tempted by the latest one, it's getting really good reviews.
