Thanks for the reminder about that. My husband has tons of spots on his back and I need to keep watch of them. Praying for good news for your son.

Thank you for the motivation! I got my own son's dermatology referral today because of this thread. I hope your son's results come back clear.

This is such an important issue that too many people take lightly I hope the tests results are good.

Glad it was removed!
I have been going through this as well recently. Had a large mole show up on my back. It was about the size of a penny and grew over a three month or so period. Went in and got it removed it came back melanoma, had to have it removed again (because they didn't get it all) and now I am clear but need to go every 6 months.
I am 32 if it matters. I also did a full body check on my kids after it came back and have also notified two people when I seen suspicious moles on them. It is hard not to skin watch people now!

Glad to hear that you got on it and your MD is attending to this quickly, sending prayers and good vibes that it will come back negative.
Being vigilant is the only way, for yourself and your kids. A fair-skinned redhead, I had a small dark pink spot that wouldn't heal on my neck. Had it biopsied and it came back melanoma. Dermo removed it with wide margins (30+ years ago, pre Mohs surgery), healed up without a problem and just a fine line for a scar. No recurrence, so yes, melanoma is very scary, but it doesn't have to be: EARLY DETECTION IS THE KEY!!!!!!

I hope your son is just fine. One can never be too careful when it comes to skin abnormalities. Good for you for noticing and making the appointment.

Wow...a few melanomas here...glad you all caught it early as well. Mine was early (stage I level II) and a wide excision is the only treatment I required. I have a scar on my forearm that measures 3 inches long and has a permanent "dent"...but I'll take it and view it as a constant reminder. I go for screenings every 6 months and even though it's been almost 15 yrs, my doctor doesn't think it's a good idea for me to even bump my exams to annual. "So much can happen in 6 months"
Tonight was the performance at the end of Drama Camp...so while DS asked a ton of questions earlier today, he's been so excited tonight and now so exhausted, hopefully he's not giving it much thought.

Praying that the tests come back negative and that there's nothing serious. Also I pray for peace of mind and a calm spirit as you wait until the 11th to hear back.

It's removed and I'm guessing he'll be fine. Meanwhile, I'm praying for a benign nuisance. Now I'm going to step on my soapbox...AHEM...PALE IS IN! If you have a tanning bed then either throw it out or get a great oncologist. If you love to tan in the sun, same rules apply. Stepping off of soapbox now. Please resume your normal pea programming. OP, I realize that this doesn't apply to your ds, but I always use these tanning or skin issue threads to make my speech.
