Some of you may remember a recent post about my mom, she has cancer and it is terminal. Anyway I have been thinking about things to do for her. I live across the country. She has four great grandchildren she has never met before. I was thinking about printing pictures of all the kids and mailing one in a card to her every single day.
My brother does live there and he adds pictures to her computer and takes it to her daily so she does see them but I thought it might be nice to have them in hand.
What do you think? Or maybe someone has a better idea?

I think it's a great idea. When my sister-in-law was dying, she had a picture of her new, first grandchild by her bed. I saw her holding it and looking at it. Are any of them old enough to make a drawing for her? Could you do something like their thumbprints or handprints? How about a video of them? Skype?

I think that's a great idea!
If you don't mind sharing, what part of AL do you live in? I'm in north AL.

I think pictures are a great idea. If not printing them out, how about one of those digital photo frames that show picture after picture? She wouldn't have to hold them, but it could be displayed near her so she could see it all the time.
I'm so sorry for the news on your Mom. I went through the same with my Mom (on a very short time table before she died) living out of state and relying on my siblings to help out and communicate to me how things were going. I made it a point to give her really silly photos of my son to keep her smiling. Hugs!

I'm very sorry about the news on your mother. I love the idea of Skype - I think hearing their voices would be a wonderful memory for her. Or one of those greeting cards you can record on. Is she able to do a recording herself? My mother died years ago and I would dearly love to hear her voice one more time.
Sending hugs to you and your family, I know this is a difficult time for you.

Kim, I am sorry to hear about your mom. Yes she has one of those digital photo frames by her bed, I was just thinking maybe the actual pictures would be nice? One of them is old enough to do a drawing so that would be awesome! tmrdkc I am sorry my name is a bit misleading. I actually live in VA a million years ago my husband came up with this nickname. My first name is Ali and my favorite group is Alabama so it is a combination of the two

I think the pictures drawn by kids is a great idea too - or recordings of them saying things to their Grandma, so sweet.

I think having physical photos, drawings etc would be lovely - I don't know how old your Mom is, but a lot of people 'like' the digital age, but never really truly embrace it IYKWIM - having something tactile really does make a difference to many.
Maybe as well as Skype and/or recordings of things the children say directly to their grandmother, video of the 'normal' everyday stuff - kids goofing around and being natural, so she can feel like a fly on the wall and watch the family just being as they are?

I'm an Auburn girl for football.

When my dad was so ill, we made a GIANT banner for him that said WE LOVE YOU GRANDDAD! - it took the whole room from side to side. We put the little ones' handprints on it and wrote I love you and drew and drew and he had that in his room when he passed. Everyone commented on it and he loved it. It was a constant giant reminder we loved him.
I am so sorry about your mama.

Oh this is such a great idea and great timing! My son and his family live in CA and they are going to be here next week for a visit. All the great grandkids will be in one place so we can do handprints and I can fold it up and put it in my suitcase. I go see my mom on the 16th.
Thanks so much for the great ideas.
