I am planning to do digital scrapping in 2016 and I am planning to print out pages in 8x8. Is it ok to design my layouts in 12x12 and then resize when I print, or should I be doing my layouts in 8x8 to begin with? A lot of templates are 12x12, so I thought I would just work with that and then resize afterwards. Or not?? Thanks!

Yes, you can design in 12x12 and print as 8x8. Just be sure the font size you use for journaling is legible once printed as 8x8.

You can also resize the template before you ever start.

Thanks Ladies! And thanks for the reminder about the font size! Would have totally forgotten about that.

You can also resize the template before you ever start. This is what I do. Works like a charm!

(the lightbulb in my head went off!) Just be sure there is no chance you'll want to print it at 12x12 in the future, or even 10x10, because you won't be able to size it up without losing quality. Creating at 12x12 leaves that option open if you think you might ever want it.

First of all I make a duplicate copy of the 12 x 12 digital template. Like the others have mentioned I resize it. Since I usually scrapbook 8 1/2 x 11, I resize the template to 8.5 x 8.5. After I'm happy with the layout I merge the layers and then move it to 8 1/2 x 11 blank page that I've either matched it to a color in the merged template or have decided on another digital paper. Since I have "extra space" I either place an embellishment or journalling in this space. I also apply a shadow to the template and voila my page is done and I then print it at home.
