We played the mini Holiday version today and felt like getting creative with it so these are other ways I came up with:
Spot It Alphabet:
Make alphabet tiles or use Scrabble tiles or make a dice of letters that the images start with.
Have each tile be a letter that starts with an image/word.
With the mini Holiday version our dice or letter tiles would be like:
B for Bells
C for Candy Cane
D for Drum
E for Elf
F for Family
H for Holly
L for Lights
M for Music
... Etc and if it's dice I would make like 2 or 3 of them.
Not all plays will have a letter match an image.
When that happens you roll the dice again/draw another tile.
You can have all dice rolled at once or have each one take it's turn.
What letter/s show are the ones you use to find what images they start with. Once you spot one you play just like the original way and shout it out. If you do that successfully the card is yours.
Odd Ball:
Someone can choose one of the images or make a set of cards with each image / word drawn or written on them.
And turn one of the cards up.
The image/word chosen is the one that everyone will try to find in the Spot It deck. Once they find it they claim it the same way the game is played originally.
If there is no image/word of that card you can either shout "odd ball" ( or something ) and claim it that way.
Or if there is no image/word another card can be drawn till there's a match.
Match and Release:
Divide the cards in half. ( discard any extra )
Lay out half of the cards face up
Deal the other half to the players
The players have to race and match their cards to the lay out of cards.
Once they find a match they shout out the image/word and put their card on top of the card they saw the match in. ( face down that way each card layout can be played )
The player to get rid of all their cards first wins.
Throwdown showdown (Spot It in Reverse) :
Take a card out of the pile face down. ( center card )
Deal the rest evenly to the players face up.
The players have to throw their cards down once they find a match to the center card.
The player to use up all their cards first wins. ( Just be careful of hand to hand impacts )
You can also have a center card for each player to use to avoid a same time thrown down.
Spot It Nonmatching:
Take the first card on the deck and put it in the center. ( Face down )
Once the card gets turn up the players have to name an image/word that is Not on the card ( but an image/word that is still in the deck )
And the first player to successfully claim the card keeps it.
The game continues till are the cards are used and the player with the most cards at the end of the game wins. ( in order to play this way smoothly it might be best to have gotten used to what all the images are )
Hope you enjoy playing these versions if you are interested in trying them out
Feel free to share your own ideas for other ways to play as well
