It pisses me off because she's battled some difficulties, puts herself out there, and instead of positive recognition, she gets this shit. This. That woman has survivor written all over her face. I think she's beautiful. It's a shame others don't see it.

Carrie Fisher looked good, imo, in the Force Awakens - Mark Hamil on the other hand...looks like life wasn't good to him.
Harrison Ford....he's always looked good and that hasn't changed.

Because it gives the "news" sites something to write about? If people stopped clicking through on "articles" like that (thus earning those sites ad revenue), they'd probably stop posting them. but I must say, I did take their 'click bait' and read the article... I liked her tweet replies to their ridiculous statements about her appearance.

People barely know what a 50 or 60 year old woman looks like anymore. She's whip-smart and funny and could give two shits about what other people think. I watch some of the Real Housewives shows and that is a hoot. What they do to their faces is a job in itself to maintain.

I've seen it several times and many interviews and I'm convinced this is the biggest problem. I haven't quite figured out how it translates into her lack of inflection/tone modulation but I've definitely settled on the teeth as the problem! (I actually thought - with all the money JJ Abrams spent on this film, he couldn't get someone competent to fix whatever hack job they did on her dental work?) Seriously, I think she's fabulous and I don't know why she's paying attention to the minor criticisms. I've been much more alarmed and saddened by how much Harrison Ford has slowed down and HIS speech slurring than Carrie Fisher. For heavens sake, the woman has battled demons her entire life and here she is alive and able to reprise the role of a lifetime. Who cares what some shallow nincompoops have to say about how she looks?

Harrison Ford is 73ish, while that makes me sad that he is getting older. He was very spry for a man in his 70s.

The double standard is a live and well, no doubt about it.
I've always liked Carrie Fisher. She seems to have a great sense of humor about herself. She did a guest appearance on "30 Rock" that was so awesome, basically acknowledging how tough older women have it, how men don't even want to acknowledge they exist. If you're a fan of the show you'll remember Jack saying to Liz Lemon, after pretending to have a nice talk with Carrie Fisher's character reminiscing about the past "Fire her. And don't ever make me talk to a woman that old again."
Anyway, I agree with the posters who said plastic surgery. I'm not against it, if they ever come up with a way to really make me look 20 years younger I'd be all over it. But IMHO doesn't really make anyone look young, it just makes most people look...really weird.
ETA - oh BTW, I love the show "Laverne & Shirley" (stay with me here, there IS a connection to this thread) and I've been catching reruns of it lately on a new channel I now get called "Decades" that is so awesome! Anyway, after watching one of the episodes from when the girls moved to California, I noticed that both L & S looked REALLY fit and cute; and that led me to start wondering if Penny Marshall (who plays Laverne) ever remarried after she divorced Meathead. And in the course of my researching this question, I found several articles which seemed to indicate that Penny Marshall has a long time gay lover and that person is... you guessed it, Carrie Fisher!

Her response to the hubbub is classic Carrie Fisher. "Age and beauty are not accomplishments..." Carrie Fisher Strikes Back
She is an inspiration, along with a lot of other women that are keeping it real in the entertainment industry these days.

I think she looks great but... her voice. It sounds like she's talking around a mouthful of marbles. It's incredibly distracting and has been bugging the crap out of me ever since she's come back into the spotlight with this new movie. It's like she's botoxed the hell out of her mouth or something- there's a permanent fish pout there somehow. I even asked my husband if she's had a stroke or something.
I have absolutely no problem with how she looks.

I don't know what Carrie's problem is, every actress loses weight for movie roles to look their best on film! That's just how it is. Her comments just rubbed me the wrong way, clearly she was in denial about how she looked. She should have kept her mouth shut and be happy to get a paycheck. I'm sure she's enjoying her new body and was glad she was pushed to do something about it.

I saw the movie today and I thought she looked great. Maybe because I've seen the critical headlines, I was expecting something worse? I think she looks like Princess Leia would look 38 years after the original Star Wars. Don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Carrie Fisher is awesome. She is a hoot in her interviews. I also don't get all the Mark Hamill hate-- I think he also looks like a real person. I appreciate that they are human beings and not plastic replicas.

Mark Hamill was a shock to me when he was in the Kingsmen with Colin Firth. I can see how people would be surprised with him as Luke. I thought we were same age in first movie, turns out we're not.
@crankypea haha thanks for disclaimer about staying with your post. That's a piece of trivia we wouldn't have expected in 1978!

There is something fundamentally wrong with an industry that doesn't appreciate an actress for her acting ability but rather for how she looks. Yes that's just how it is but I'd rather watch someone who can competently portray a role not someone who just happens to be pretty and have tits up to her chin.

She's not married and I googled her net worth to be about $5 million which is not a lot in Hollywood. The last few years she's only doing a few guest spots playing herself on various shows, this was a big paycheck for her. She was a Jenny Craig spokewoman in 2011 which seems contradictory to someone upset they have to lose weight for a part, as being a spokewoman for a weight loss company would imply you know you need to lose weight.

I haven't seen the movie yet, supposed to be going to the IMAX today, so I don't know if Harrison Ford had a bigger role than Carrie in the movie or if it's just gender inequality in pay. But this is what I found for their salaries for the movie. Carrie is also cast to be in the next movie coming out in 2017.

Harrison had a much bigger role than Carrie so I could see him being paid more.
She's only 5'1" so any extra weight she has is going to show. I think she is amazing and I thought she looked fantastic in her part.

And for Christie Brinkley. She has good genes. Both her parents and grandparents really didn't age either. I recently read an article that she does have work done. Nothing big, mostly botox and the like. So it isn't all genes.

Men don't age better than women, they are just allowed to age. This totally reminded me of this pin I saw on Pinterest. pinHow do boys look good without make up?
Because society hasn't told boys they look bad without it.

Personally, I thought Carrie Fisher looked great for her age, while Harrison Ford looked really old. Of course, he is older than she is by a number of years, but I thought she looked far better than he did.
What bothered me was not her appearance, but that she seemed to have some speech difficulty, and her face had so little expression, like the muscles were frozen. I assumed that she'd had Botox to make her appear as young as possible, and it messed up her speech and ability to show more facial expression. Her seeming inability to show facial expression was the only thing I found disappointing in her appearance.

Didn't he break a leg and need surgery, that would account for his difficulty in running. Yeah, I don't know at what point in filming he broke his leg, ankle, whatever. If the scene was filmed before or after. The way he moved reminded me of my 75 year old Dad. We saw the movie yesterday and my husband and I were joking about how old it made us feel to see how old the original cast members looked.
