no discussion on wrinkly, craggy faced, graying Harrison Ford? They both look age appropriate to me in the new Star Wars. Men don't age better than women, they are just allowed to age.

Because it gives the "news" sites something to write about? If people stopped clicking through on "articles" like that (thus earning those sites ad revenue), they'd probably stop posting them.

I think she looks pretty darn good, and I agree that they both look age-appropriate. If I were to nitpick, I would say that he appears to be at a weight that is healthier, but she isn't fat by any stretch.
However, my first thought when I saw the movie was, "Has she been smoking a pack a day?" LOL Her voice really changed!

Carrie fisher looked really bad 5-10 years ago. I thought she looked good in this movie. I also thought Harrison Ford looked good, especially for his age.

It's bad that we're so accustomed to people having plastic surgery that when we see a non-surgically altered, aging face, we think they look 'bad'. (Just like that sentence)

Don't you know the hot princess in the bikini and chains is supposed to stay the hot princess in the bikini and chains even though it's been 38 years

Plus women get compared to people like Christie Brinkley. If my career was based on my looks alone I'd damn sure work at a bikini body. Well said, OP, "Men don't age better than women, they are just allowed to age." Even Brad Pitt is starting to show some age, but no one's slamming him about it.

Because when people can't dream up something relevant to say about someone, they resort to appearance and personal attack... it's so satisfying to their superiority, don't ya know!

One of my favorite things about the movie is that the actors looked age-appropriate. I thought she looked great...

We have some friends that went to a meet and greet with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, and they used the picture they got from the event for their Christmas Card. My DS who is 19 and has autism said, "Luke looks lots older but Leia hasn't really changed much." So, there's one who thinks Carrie has aged well and that some men haven't.

It pisses me off because she's battled some difficulties, puts herself out there, and instead of positive recognition, she gets this shit.

I thought that it was nice to see someone in Hollywood with an unaltered, non-plasticed face. She looked a lot better in the movie than in the recent Ellen appearance she did. I'm thinking she lost weight for the movie.

It's still a man's world. We've been trained to believe that gray hair and wrinkles make a man look wise, powerful and sexy, while gray hair and wrinkles just make a woman look old.

I'm thinking she lost weight for the movie. I saw her interviewed with Garry the dog and she said she lost weight for the movie. The reason I mentioned Garry is he was the star of the interview. He sounds like he takes good care of her

Carrie Fisher gives me hope. First she was gorgeous, then she aged poorly, then she came back from that and is looking just great! Plus, she's kept her sense of humor which is awesome (always has been). You go, Carrie. You go.

(Just like that sentence) I think many people look "older" with plastic surgery. I don't know how to explain it, maybe they just don't look very good with some of the plastic surgery.

I thought she looked age appropriate in the movie, but I do think she has had a little bit of botox and her eyes look "done". I thought she looked pretty good in the movie.
On the Kennedy Center Honors aired the other day, when she spoke, her speech was a little bit slurred either from bad dental work, over-done botox, or her prescription. I honestly think she looks a little older than 59 years old (on KCH, not recent Star Wars). I know she appeared in a hologram, but she has talked the same way in recent interviews. I hope she isn't struggling with her sobriety. Also, she has had regular ECT treatments as part of treatment for her bi-polar diagnosis (ECT treatments are controversial). I just wish people who had gained weight wouldn't wear tight fitting dresses. Go up a size or two so that dress skims the curves not clutches the curves in a death grip (I'm a fluffy gal by the way).
I like Carrie Fisher, her books are very witty, but Lord, what a life she has led.
ETA: Interestingly, at the KCH ceremony, Carole King (who is 73 or 74 years old) looked great. Talk about someone who really hasn't changed over the years. Despite difficulties in her life, I think Carole King is generally a happy, positive person and sometimes, happiness really shows on your face!

I'm thinking she lost weight for the movie. I read somewhere that JJ Abrams personally hired trainers for Fisher, Ford and Hamill in preparation for the movie. Although Mark Hamill didn't do much other than stare. Don't know if it's true, but all of them looked pretty good for their ages, IMO. CF is nearly 60 and HF is 73. The only distracting thing to me was Carrie Ford's speech. Her voice has changed so much, and it seemed like she was trying to keep dentures in as she spoke. But hey, she's come through some pretty serious stuff with addiction, so I'm not going to criticize her. It takes a lot of courage to put herself out there, knowing she's going to be judged for her appearance and her past.

I believe one of the side effects of meds for bipolar disorder, which CF has is slurred speech. I think she is courageous to bare her challenges with weight, addiction and illness in the media.

I love her;she's so witty. I'm her age, and sadly I am not one bit surprised. This double standard has been around since forever. Men are craggy and apparently women are saggy. It sucks.

She looks fabulous! Beautiful, wise and exactly how she should. It is a strong role she is playing and I am sure there are a lot of people who probably think she should have been playing an aging do nothing princess.
Harrison ford looks dirty.

And for Christie Brinkley. She has good genes. Both her parents and grandparents really didn't age either.

I thought she looked great in this movie. better than she had in years. but there was definitely something off about her. she seemed much slower or more deliberate in her actions. like she was sick or recovering from a physical illness. regardless, she looked good and there is no reason to body shame her.

Because looking at people (particularly women) age reminds us that we will all get old and die and we don't want to be reminded of that.
