I know they can be pretty common..but has anyone ever had pain from them? What are some "symptoms" that they have grown, etc..
I rarely have a cycle anymore due to having an IUD. I will still get some symptoms monthly, and occasionally I will get "in between" cramping, I guess ovulating..?
But one night this past week, I woke up from a sound sleep feeling like I had been shot..left low front where ovaries are, was SOO much pain...about 2hours of it..finally after ibuprofen it eased and I fell back to sleep..I was still sore the next day, and Ive had twinges there ever since.
I do have a Drs appt this coming week, and i'm sure will send for a CT or ultra sound...but wondered what else it could be??

I used to get them before my hysterectomy. I would get sharp pains in the area. so painful it would double me over. I had surgery to remove a couple of golf ball sized ones. finally, I had a hysterectomy with the removal of both ovaries.

I haven't had one but a good friend had one removed a few months ago. For her the first pain was a dull ache around her hip region, but it persisted and each month got worse. It then moved to the back. Finally she went to get it checked out and the Gyn discovered she had 2 cysts on top of each other and the whole ovary had to be removed. I would definitely get any sudden abdomen pain checked out.

I have one. It comes and goes with ovulation. I usually have like a deep ache. Sometimes some sharp twinges. I usually do ibro and a heating pad, and that takes care of it. They don't want to remove it, because it comes and goes. And I don't have a lot of pain with it. I've been doctoring with the cyst, fibroids, and bleeding big time this yr, but I really don't want surgery.

I had one burst. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I thought I was going to die. I couldn't stand up straight for a week. I was pregnant with dd2 and had been in the ER earlier in the day with a gallbladder attack. That was not a fun pregnancy.

I had several as a teen and in my 20s. In high school, my GYN put me on birth control pills that really helped. I had several that ruptured, and the pain was intense. I was given toradol when ibuprofen did nothing.
Then in my 20s I was diagnosed with endometriosis and was put on Depo Provera. I had a few years of no cysts and light periods. Then after my stroke which was partly caused by a blood clot factor that was made worse by estrogen, I had to go off birth control. My cysts came back with a vengeance.
I had so many cysts on my right ovary that it was stuck to my abdominal wall with scar tissue. I had to have emergent surgery to remove the ovary. I felt so much better.
Then I started having severe cysts on the other side. I had part of that ovary removed because of recurrent cysts.
When I had to have my uterus removed because of precancerous cells, my GYN and PCP decided that removing the remaining ovary was needed. By that time, I was in perimenopause anyway.
Having the hysterectomy was the best medical decision I've made. I no longer have hot flashes and am so thrilled to no longer have to deal with nasty periods and ovarian cysts.

I had one ovarian cyst that I know of because it ruptured. This happened a week after my second child was born and I would happily go through childbirth again before I want to experience the ovarian cyst pain again.
For me, the pain came on suddenly and so intensely that I was doubled over and couldn't speak. DH was trying to figure out what was happening, paged my doctor and by the time she called back it was over. The doubled over pain lasted maybe 20 minutes, followed by a weird tingling as the cyst drained and then I was fine (having just delivered a baby fine, couldn't tell if there was any extra discomfort or residual pain from the ruptured cyst). I found out they had noted a cyst on my right ovary during a prenatal ultrasound and just by my description the doctor was able to tell me what happened.

I had one I my 20's it was very painful. It was a result of endometriosis. I had surgery which resolved the issue but he ovary was so scarred it no longer worked. I consider myself very fortunate to have a child when the time was right in my mid 30's.

When this last episode occured, I was laying in bed curled in a ball...and a few times it crossed my mind to have DH take me to ER, it hurt that bad...had never experienced pain there like that before.
I did have them mention to me during my last back xrays they noticed a small ovarian cyst at the time, which was a good year ago..but never had any reason to think anything was wrong, so hadn't really thought much about it..... Like I said, I have a Drs appt thursday to see what they have to say...

I've had them rupture a few times. The pain was pretty awaful, the first time it happened I was waitressing, and couldn't stand up straight. Worked the whole night like that before going to the ER. A few years ago I had one rupture that was bleeding pretty badly and was in the hospital overnight.
The symptoms were sudden very sharp pain, and tenderness to the area (rebounding pain, if I pressed on the area, it hurt when letting go)
