DH gave me a silhouette cameo for Christmas to replace my ancient craftrobo. He wants me to install it on the laptop which I rarely use because I prefer the much larger screen on the computer. It would be nice to be able to take the cameo to my sisters to design/cut things for her. Can the software be installed on both machines or only one as with the Craftrobo?

Yes, I just did yesterday. I have a mac laptop and moved all my files to the windows desktop. You can not open both at the same time and you can only move your cuts three times to different computers. After you install the software with any updates, it is located under "my account" under recover my document files.

Yep. You can put it on as many computers as you want, actually.
If you have the Designer Edition upgrade, that can only be installed 3 times.
You can have the software open on more than one computer at once. I have my desktop and my laptop going at the same time with no issue.
You can EXPORT your library and IMPORT your library on as many computers as you want (must be your computer, as you have to verify your account). There is no limit on how many times you can EXPORT/IMPORT your library.

Good question and good answers! I don't have a Sil yet, but have been thinking about it (maybe for Mother's Day?) and as my laptop is pretty ancient, I'd hate to get a ton of files and then lose them when I replace my computer eventually. This is good to know.

I never thought to try logging into both at same time figuring it would be a waste of my time. One of my goals for 2016 is to learn this machine. I may be calling on you to teach me more tips & tricks.

I too have a goal to learn how to use this machine, I didn't spend enough time with the craft robo. Thanks for the information since I am not very tech savvy.

Your question has already been answered, but I have my Cameo connected to my desktop. My sister, my daughter, and my daughter-in-law each have a Cameo. When I travel, I just take my laptop with all my cutting files, and I just borrow their machines. No need to even take my machine since the software will cut from any Silhouette cutter.
