I'm trying to branch out on the salad dressings I use. I rotate between 4 or 5, but I've been wanting to make my own. I found a recipe for greek salad dressing at allrecipes.com, but other than that, I'm unsure where to even begin.
Do you make your own salad dressing, and if so, can you post the recipe? thanks!

I like simple stuff. It's always 3 part oil to 1 parts "acid". Right now i'm using garlic infused olive oil with lemon juice as the acid and some dill over sliced salad cucumbers and thinly sliced onion. Yum. In the frig now just waiting for me.
But don't be afraid to mix it up. Use the 3:1 ratio with any oils and citrus juice or vinegar. Add a bit of spice if wanted and your good to go. I prefer the thinner (not thick and creamy) for the most part so it's always pretty simple.
Now off to have some cukes...
ETA corrected generally it's thought to be 3 parts oil, 1 acid. Switched it up above in error (now corrected) as I like less oil.

This is my new favorite.. its a traditional Caesar.
Caesar Dressing 1 large egg 1 garlic clove ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 tablespoon anchovy paste ½ cup parmesan, finely shredded ½ cup olive oil Kosher salt and black pepper.
Bring a small pan of water to a simmer and add the egg. Cook it for 45-seconds- 1 minute and then immediately crack it into a large bowl. In the same large bowl, whisk together the coddled egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, mustard, lemon juice, anchovy paste and parmesan until smooth. Whisk in the olive oil in a thin stream while continuing to whisk hard. I had it all in a bowl and use my food processor to mix it. When the dressing has become thick and smooth, season with salt and pepper to taste.

I also do the 3 parts oil to 1 part acid. My favorite is olive oil with grapefruit juice. Season with salt pepper and a little Dijon. For the salad, I do butter lettuce, grapefruit segments and avocado slices. Yum!
My standard is olive oil, balsamic, Dijon, garlic, salt and pepper.
Store bought, I like the Champagne dressing by Girards (the triangle shaped bottles)

I love blue cheese dressing and think that store bought varieties kind of suck. I always make my own. I just try out different recipes that I find online and have found that all of them are good.

My favorite is a thick, creamy feta dressing that I make.
I also love sweet and sour - equal parts sugar, vinegar and oil whisked together with a bit of salt, pepper and paprika. Really good over spinach salad with feta, cranberries, nuts and green onions.
My kids love an lemon and oil dressing that I make. It's similar to those posted above. For herbs, I add: parsley, Italian seasonings, basil, oregano, seasoning or celery salt and lemon pepper. Sometimes I add dill or Greek seasoning. It's delicious with croutons, shredded cheese, sliced tomatoes, green or red onions, olives or mushrooms tossed with spinach or Romaine.
I also make homemade ranch as well - very easy.

No matter what I try my absolute favorite is the Hidden Valley Ranch packet. You mix it with mayonnaise and milk. I could drink that stuff.

Buy the best tasting olive oil and balsamic that you can afford!
I will mix in garlic, honey, lime joined, lemon zest, and fresh herbs and go from there depending on what I feel like. I start with olive oil and just start whisking and adding to taste!

Breanna's Chipotle cheddar is really good. My favorite is parmesean pepper corn of any brand but lately I've really been enjoying sweet dressing like the ones you get with a sweet kale bagged salad.

My FIL makes a delicious raspberry vinaigrette that he won't share the recipe. lol. He's so territorial. He also makes a wonderful creamy version.
If I don't feel like home made, I always use Kraft Creamy Poppyseed or Russian. Those two are my faves from the store bought.
I like a good balsamic dressing with a bit of lemon.

Briannas Ginger Mandarin. It's so good. I wasn't much of a salad eater until I tried this.

I have a few easy, homemade vinaigrettes that I like to make, but my favorite, since childhood, is Marie's Blue Cheese.

This is the dressing I use each day on my kale salad (I know the ingredients sound odd, but it's really good) - Apple cider vinegar, Trader Joes spicy brown mustard, splash of water, agave. No real measurements, I just keep adding and tasting.

peajays - Here ya go! Feta Cheese Salad Dressing 5 oz. feta ¼ c. buttermilk OR milk ½ c. sour cream ½ c. mayo 2 T. white wine vinegar 2 cloves garlic, finely minced 1 green onion, finely chopped 1 t. chopped fresh dill OR ¼ t. dried 1 t. dried oregano Salt and pepper Whisk together. Let flavors meld for 24 hours. This part is really important! It's tempting to want to just eat the dressing as soon as you make it. But it tastes much better the next day. Enjoy! Lisa

I make my own dressing a lot because all store bought dressings have sugar in them. When I make vinagrette, I like it 3 times the vinegar (balsamic mostly) to one part oil and I add some Italian herbs, salt and pepper. Yum!

My only problem with it is that I never remember to take it out of the fridge in advance to let it thin out. I love it though. I bought a 6 pk from their website.

I go to Olive Garden and buy their dressing.
It sounds silly.....I have bought the restaurant version at Costco and SAMs and it tastes off. Now I just swing into the restaurant!
