I know a lot of people love CM because they make very nice albums, but they are hard to move pages around. I came up with an idea many years back that made those albums as easily to move around as 3-Ring binders. I'm posting this because it seems so simple to me, but I'm listening to Paper Clipping Roundtable and it seems people still hate on CM because of this.
So what I do is buy the pages and the page protectors. I put all of the CM pages in and the CM page protectors in the album and just slide my completed 12x12 pages in and out of the page protectors. I "wallpapered" the first 2 of my CM albums, but got frustrated like everyone else. Then I just realized as long as I don't wallpaper the completed 12x12 pages in, I could move them around just like in a 3 ring binder by sliding my pages in and out of the page protectors.
I like 3 Rings because they are cheaper, but I don't like how much space they take up. CM's albums are also pretty expensive - I feel like they are great quality and I don't like the 3 ring gap in between 2 page spreads (which I know there are ways around this a well!).
Pretty simple and maybe a lot of people already know this, but I hope this helps someone!

That's a really great tip to just slide the page under the page protector like you would if it were a side-opening pocket.
All of my 12x12 albums are CM. I rejected the white pages early on and used Westrim pocket pages. It's funny, though, my last few have been chronological on the original pages, with the background color prominently showing.

I love CM albums and have been buying them since the beginning of my scrapbooking in 1998. To me they are worth the quality! After I've spent time scrapbooking I want to be sure my pages last in an archival album. Recently I picked up my wedding album that I made back in 1999. I had dried flowers on the first page and yet that first page still looks brand new as does all of the rest of the pages in that album. It amazed me.
I used to use the white pages as background, but for a few years now I've like using colored cardstock as background for my pages. I now use CM's single pocket 12x12 pages to just slide my pages in. These pages make it very simple to switch my pages around. Are they cheap? No. But quality never is. I don't mind paying more for quality.

I like that idea, thanks for sharing it. I've always gotten annoyed with my albums, but I love the finished product so much. I'm another who only uses the CM albums (since 1999.)

You are still bulking up your albums with those unused white pages. Those are expensive and basicslly unused. They need a stand alone page protector that free pages can slide into. Do they make those now? If not they need to.

Thanks so much scrappea that is such a great tip! You've just made my life a lot easier. I have 3 CM albums to use up and have just started making some layouts to go in them.

I love CM albums and am so glad they are back the same as they were! Thanks for the tip, because I used their side-load page protectors that they don't make anymore. I don't care for the other styles that fit, so I think I am going to try their plain page with the slide on protectors with no or just touch of adhesive to keep my layouts in them. Since I don't scrap chronologically, I need to be able to move them around now and again.

Do they make those now? If not they need to. myboysnme, I realize that, so there definitely is a downside. I checked this morning and they actually do make a single what they call "pocket page" page protector, so you could buy those instead of the pages + protectors. The price is better also. The page + protector is $1.84/page and the "pocket page" is $1.62/page. Still a little steep but I really like their albums. I'll be switching over to the pocket pages only once I use up all the pages and protectors I currently own. But, if you are like me and you still have some of the pages + protectors left, you can use this tip to move your pages around at will!

I would recommend trying them before you buy a lot of their page protectors. When CM went away, CTMH made similar protectors that specifically fit CM albums (they look nearly identical and last time I checked, CTMH still sold them). I absolutely did not like how they opened and worked where they were bound. It acts like post bound, but the strap hinges have more slack so they don't stay bound like they do in a post bound. And because they don't have the metal hasp (or whatever you would call it) they don't flip all the way open like the traditional CM pages.

I have a lot of pages left because the albums used to come with them, but I didn't use them. Then I ordered page protectors so that I could use them if I had to, being unsure of the CM future. My options are all covered for the scrapbook apocalypse.

These are the pages I'm using as I mentioned in my thread above. I've used the side loading pages they used to make and those were great. I haven't been creating my pages on the white background pages for years. Now that CS has replaced the side loading pages with the top loading 12x12 pocket page it's even easier to pop my layouts in and move them around. Debbie in MD.

I have been using cm albums since I started scrapping in 2003. I never actually used the white pages. I would just slide a completed page on each side. I used this method until they came out with the side loading sleeves. I am so sad that they did not reinstate these when the company returned a year or so ago. I just used the last of my side loading sleeves and have struggle with what to do next. I ended up ordering the CTMH 12x12 pocket page. You get 25 for the same price CM charges for 15. They are okay. I think they are a little noisy when you turn the pages. I might have to suck it up and try the CM version I REALLY wish they would bring back the side loading sleeves!!

Let us know how you like the top loading CM sleeves, what they call their 12x12 pocket page. I really wish they hadn't called it that because it's a bit confusing, at least I think so. If they had called it instead their 12x12 top loading sleeve I think most of us would be more apt to buy it, since that is what it is, a replacement for the 12x12 side loading sleeve.
