Hi Peas, I have been struggling SIGNIFICANTLY with my scrap room the past few weeks. We just painted it (Rio Sky by Behr) and I need to pick lighting. I decided to start with the wall sconces (2 of them) because it has been the hard part. Has anyone noticed how ALL wall sconces look like either they belong in a bathroom, or a hotel hallway? I don't know if its me, or the selection out there, but I am having a major road block! Help me shop Peas. I like satin nickel and white, but I'm open to anything. I gravitate toward modern, but I like a little chic thrown in here and there.

Well remember since it is a scraproom, you will need very good task lighting.
In my room, I have ceiling lights and one in the center through a ceiling fan. It still is not enough so each workstation has a desk Ott light.
I'm thinking sconce lights would only be decorative, so you can go with anything you like..there are fun ones on Etsy..with mason jars that I love..or the 'industrial" style

Will the sconce lighting be the only lights in the room? We have sconce lights in our family room, and they don't put out much light at all IMHO. I would check to see what size bulbs the fixtures take before buying anything because 60 watt bulbs just won't cut it. In my studio, I had recessed can lights that were awful. DH hired an electrician to add something like six 4' fluorescent cloud fixtures that we put daylight bulbs into (4 fixtures on one side, 2 on the other, it's a big space) and we added daylight flood bulbs to the remaining can lights. Huge, huge, HUGE difference! Like day and night. Or should I say, it's like day AT night down there now! At first all that additional light took some getting used to but now I really love it. Having enough light down there helps a lot with eye strain since there are only two north facing windows so there isn't a lot of natural light especially in the wintertime when the daylight hours are so short. And since they are daylight bulbs they are great for matching colors, etc.

My apologies if I wasn't clear. The room will have the two sconces (which I honestly would NOT have chosen to have, but the holes are in the walls and must be filled!) and an overhead light. If I feel I need more light later on I can always get a desk light.
I really just don't know what to do about the sconces from an aesthetic point of view. They are weird to me, maybe that's the issue?
ETA: Perhaps I should post in NSBR? This turned out to be more a decorating question than scrap related...

Do you have a particular style you're shooting for (cottage, modern, traditional, etc.)? Also, where are you wanting to shop? I did a quick Google search and found this place which seems to have hundreds of styles of sconces! Lamps Plus Good luck!
